For the last 13yrs I've made it to almost every season opener at Combe, with SWMBO not fancying the idea of tramping miles around the track and paddock in the mud I borrowed her friends fiancée Phil, it was his first time at Combe and his first racing since he was 11! There was a lot of modern stuff racing and not a huge amount of retro fodder, but I found a few gems for you chaps New for 2010 is an AWD championship, hopefully it'll take the pressure off the saloon cup where the closing speeds were getting scary! I went along to this servicing with college, I thought it was a really good day. Very enjoyable, and a nice mix of cars. I'm not in any of the pictures, must have been just out of shot, but this is our car: And on track: And josh looking rather serious: Was a good day, glad to hear about that escort winning the 4wd. That thing sounded awesome! I missed the race unfortunately as we were busy pulling out radicals tank in some rushed repairs after a lack of power in qualifying. You don't happen to have any high-res versions of the photo's that you'd mind me letting the guys at college have? I'm sure josh and the other guys would love it. I had my camera, but was busy with timing on the pit was during the actual race. You're photo's are also rather a lot better than mine . Here's a couple I did get though:

Cosworth, not sure if it was a genuine RS500 or not, but it didn't last long. Push start for the qualifying session Last corner of the first lap out and a little wide He drifted even more And planted it into the barriers sending water and panels everywhere The end result That's depressing. If it's the one I'm thinking of it was an £18k car, recently built. Not a genuine RS500 but still immculate. Not good. Charlie

Cheers, glad we gave a good impression. We managed 11th place, but the class was pretty open and we were up against much more powerful cars, ours is only a little 1100. (that's my excuse anyway, and I'm sticking to it!). We were running about a second slower than on the test day on Thursday though. We had some drama after qualifying too, the car was very down on power, and we managed to (correctly) diagnose it as a deteriorating fuel line letting air into the supply. Easy fix you'd think, but due to the direction the jubilee clip was facing, replacing it required taking the fuel tank out, and taking the fuel tank out required taking the seat, fire extinguisher, harness's, and gear linkage out. grrr.. I'll PM you my e-mail address, I'm sure Josh will be chuffed to have them, thanks.

That's depressing. If it's the one I'm thinking of it was an £18k car, recently built. Not a genuine RS500 but still immculate. Not good. Charlie The program shows its owned and run by a chap from Swindon called Andy Jermain. From the view we had (the top railing of the steps up the Avon bridge, the line he took into Camp was much wider than it should have been, this meant he ran onto the grass and into the tyre wall, weather he carried too much speed or it was cold tyres and lack of grip, I'm not sure. A little further along and he would have probably just rubbed down the barrier, but it was left corner first and he spun round, lucky he didn't end up on the the track again! The wreck that was brought back in was a mess as you can see, the passenger side door forwards and the whole front end will need replacing, the rest of the car was untouched so fingers crossed it'll be out again soon

Brrr. That's two annoying crashes for two blue Cossies in the space of two weeks.
I'm still summoning up the energy to look at the photos of my bent car. Should be fixed in a few days.

lovely pics, as per usual - i'd love the skill to be able to take good stills of racing!
I'm very surprised that the Norris evo didn't d1ck on everything; wasn't it a top contender in time attack last year? Also, how did the (i assume) S2 sound/perform?

The S2 sounded awesome, chattering away off the power, but it was outclassed on the straights and corners, if it was a soundoff, it'd get gold ;D The Norris Evo was a real disappointment. For a car with 900hp it seemed quite "normal" the closing speed on lower powered cars wasn't that great and it speed out of corners wasn't what I thought it might be. There were lots of Norris fans watching and to see the Cosworth spank it was very funny! Between the two races he "found" 200hp so it was down in the first event, but in the second it still wasn't all that, this sums it up for me..... ....

Just read one of the replies, seems the bloke was a complete novice, that was his first ever lap of Combe and first lap in a proper race car. Some good advice from the other forum members too on learning the basics first

Shame for sierra, indeed, but as you allude to: if I was Monsieur Norris I'd be feeling a bit daft right now!

The novice was the Sierra driver, Mr Norris and Combe go back a few years, he doesn't seem to have the best rep on the CC forum, a couple of years ago when he had some massive crashes with other drivers the regulars didn't like it
