Hello.
I'm after a back axle for a large magnum (2ltr +) so I can think about getting a V in the viva. Does anyone know of any basket case magnums kicking about? Also, I wouldn't mind some magnum calipers and disks of they're about?
Bit of a long shot I know.
Cheers.

I can possibly get you the larger diameter Viva discs through work .( brand new ones ) I did check for someone else a few months back and although the supplier was out of stock at the time , they did say they were expecting stock in ' a few months time' , which would be about now !
Bear it in mind in case you don't unearth some secondhand ones..

Cheers coggers, nice one. I expect an axle is hugely rare? How much tourque and speed do you reckon a 2.3 magnum axle would take?

Cheers coggers, nice one. I expect an axle is hugely rare? How much tourque and speed do you reckon a 2.3 magnum axle would take? Axles aint as easy to find these days and they were rated to about 200bhp max(not sure on torque) anything over and your on borrowed time unless you drive like a granny Also bare in mind on your search......... 1.8 stuff (brakes&axles) are the same as the 2.3

Ah, nice. 200BHP aint bad at all, but it's on the cusp if I go for a big V. I was thinking either an RV8, a Scorpio 2.9 EFI V6, or an omega V6, but I'm still open to suggestions. I don't suppose you know what the 1256 axle will take do you? Or if I could uprate my existing axle?

You want a Scimitar SE5A axle. They're the right width and have the same internals as some Jags so LSD isn't a problem and cheap enough if you do it yourself. You'd be hard pushed to break one of them. You will have to fab your own brackets though. The Magnum axle still looks a bit skinny in my eyes and I wouldn't want to trust one with a V8 up front. Remember, it's torque that breaks stuff.

I don't suppose you know what the 1256 axle will take do you? Or if I could uprate my existing axle? Not sure on the Viva axles tbh . 'They' reckon the 1256 Chevette axles were only good for about 100bhp.. But yeah , you don't necessarily need a '2.3 axle', if you see a Viva/Magnum one listed just an OHC axle would do . The OHC axles do pop up from time to time but seemingly never when you're after one My mate scored a pair off ebay for £20 a few years back which he still has but he's keeping one for his project and the other one as a spare for me. And I think the last time I saw one it went for about £100.. So yeah , maybe have a look at other options. How easy are those Scimitar ones to find then ? I'm assuming they're not as rare as a Viva OHC one but do they really pop up for sale regularly ? Volvo 240 no good ?

Mate of mine has a Firenza & a Scimitar. Not sure if he is breaking them though. Sure he would rather see them go as complete cars. I`ll speak to him tomorrow at work & see if he wouldn`t mind me passing on his number.

Sorry, my mistake. It`s a ventora not firenza. But he definately has a Scimitar & said he will consider breaking it. He may also have the solution to your engine choice. 3lt Ford V6 with manual box & overdrive? Anyway, feel free to give him a ring: 07776411935 His names Stuart & based in Reading.

I might be breaking a firenza soon. Its got uprated suspension and huge allycats. The body is as rotten as a pear otherwise I would save it.
