OK, so it was way back on the 7th March but I am only just getting time to start sorting through my HUUGE backlog of photos to post up. About 99% seem to be Area 52 related so I thought I'd deal with this set from the NSRA swap meet in Essex first. It was a bitterly cold day - despite what the pics say with the blue sky. Si (Black8Driver), Ben (Ben911) and Rich (FoxMcintyre) accompanied me down to Essex in the new Area 52 Tat Collector which I bought to do exactly this sort of thing.....carry people and parts around the country on various days out/missions. When we got there we had a good looky around and I was immediately taken by the M.A.D. truck with its awesome chop This wrrecker was for sale - I was tempted. How could you not be with a front bumper like that, the 80's graphics and the patina. One for BD This Taxi has made quite a few appearances on RR recently. Certainly looks pretty menacing! I wanted to get a good shot if this El Camino but people kept getting in the way, so this'll have to do.... Awesome looking Ford, but pretty rotten - a project for the serious enthusiast. New fashion neck piece, parts carrying for Dad or a bit of both?? Seth giving a polite greeting (He was actually carrying a VERY heavy diff at the time) Si, Rich and Ben queue for an eternity for a ropey burger and a cuppa! SWEEEETTT!! I wanted this suburban. It was already sold. This was a good thing. We stopped by Kev's Tat Emporium where we met up with Seth again, along with Oldbus, Oldbus Jr, Grizz, Mr Somerset etc.... Kev had just bought these slots. BIG WANT! Said Kev ferrying stuff around for people. How awesome is this for a 'souvenir' Rich puts his 'WANT' face on I spent too much time looking for a set of wheels and not enough time looking/photographing the cool stuff! Here's a couple of cool trucks to make up for it ...and finally, Ben's purchase....a tool box to ferry his tools back & forth to Area 52 - bought for the bragain price of £10. My beacon (£2) which was my random purchase for the day. My main purchase was two sets of alloys....RESULT

Feels like an eternity ago. A brilliant day. Freezing cold wind. Sexy horses. Cool cars and tat. Met some new people, met up with some old ones. Cheers again for the lift, Bruce. And thanks for putting the pics up I've outgrown the toolbox already ;D

This is way cool, anyone know the build details for it , and why it's on a 80's plate? I'm guessing it's based on a modern, or a single donor, is it an original body or reproduction?

How did I miss those? Can you elaborate? Black8Driver, currently known as B8D, for a very short while changed his username to 'sexyhorse.com' followed by the even more worryingly titled 'Doctor Fondling Monkey Tickler'. This was all around the time of the NSRA meet so while on the way there we asked him to explain himself. It was quite an amusing conversation which seemed to crop up time & again throughout the day and the journey home....especially if one of us spotted a horsebox! Suddenly B8D seems so tame. ;D

I was looking all over it at wheels day trying to work it out.. I'm guessing its transit based as there is another local to me old style truck on a F plate which has a transit engine and running gear.. the rust is all fake - its all paint - kind of looks liek that tetured paint you use on ceilings, then fake rusted over - was imo a very cool truck.. my favourite is still that chopped taxi - its the nuts

It would be allowed to have a 'dateless' plate transferred to it if he wished. To those familiar with the body style you can spot the additional length in the bed to make up the longer wheelbase but doesn't detrat from the overall effect. The GRP body itself was used as a prop in a film and the patina was applied for that before it hit the road.

I'm guessing it's based on a modern, or a single donor, is it an original body or reproduction? history is it used to be outside valley gas speed shop before it was valley gas.. it was a glassfibre film set car and had electric motors inside and fake rust effect you would not tell it was fake until you actually tough it.. me and a friend asked to buy it but it didnt happen.. then when jimmy hibbard started valley gas.. a guy who worked for/with him had it and used a modern pickup chassis and running gear under it.. cant remember which.. but it is cool as.... and yes its all a paint effect on a glass body.. si oh and.. the love for horses is natural and one should not be ashamed ;D ;D

Great pics. I saw that pick-up at Wheels Day a couple of years ago, you really can't tell it's fake rust until you're up close. I completely didn't clock the modern number plates or anything though, nice background story.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Cheers Guys,
does anyone still do similar bodies or was it purely a one off film prop? I'd love something that looked like this, real ones cost a fortune and i kind of like the thought of modern running gear without the BIVA issues, so single donor...

I'm not sure who has the moulds, but I have seen other ones about - there are also 38 willys pickup cabs in glass somewhere - and there's nothing stopping you using a cab off summat else - what I'd love to do is take a 50's brit lorry like a commer Q8, austin K9 or similar, and cut the cab down to yank pickup sizes, then drop it onto a D21 or similar chassis
there is a fordson 4D / thames which has had this done, though I think the frame was the original one modified
go for it!
