After the failed attempt to get an Alfa Spyder (insurance was ££lots!!)have decided that the time may have come for some Germanic metal in the collection. Being a fan of the three pointed star, it really has to be a Merc, problem is my garage is shared with three motorbikes, so lenght is an issue. The only Merc available which I can fit is the A class. Please tell me about A class mercs. Have some piccies.

Look for Steering rack noises - our 35,000 miler needed a new rack which are 'kin expensive Rear arch rust rear coils break every year rear suspension bushes need replacing every 25k
Avoid cvt gearbox, but full auto is lovely
Otherwise, quite a competent little car.

I bought my wife a V registration car that was a A160 Avantgarde. We had no end of problems with the rear suspension and steering column. Rear coils were replaced as regularly as filling her up and tbh cruising at 70 mph was working the engine quite hard.
Avoid.....if at all possible.

Ours was a T-plate with full 5-speed auto. It would pull 3k at 80mph and cruised lovely. On saying that, don't assume you'll get the same build quality as the rear wheel drive Mercs. These cars are built very much to a price! But for the money, it did my wife proud.

AVOID, i think most of the problems have been mentioned above. the diesels seem to be quicker. seems to be bit limited on the pattern part front so parts can be a bit steep. if an older one look for scuttle leaks as plays havoc with electrics.
plus point is the price, they are very cheap atm. and if you could find a A210 very quick.
if i wanted a small modern car, dismiss the A class, and hunt out a Audi A2 diesel. got to be the car to have, avoid the petrols as seem to suffer from the VAG Gearbox issues that affect polos and ibiza and mk4 golfs
