Say I had a mk1 Sierra XR4x4 with a type-9 4wd gear box, would a type-9 rwd box be a direct fit length wise? for the prop shaft ect?
Sorry for no cool pics this is only a quick lunchtime request ;D
Gotta get back to work!

Oh and why would you want to make a XR4x4 rear wheel drive they're handle really well if you learn how to drive them properly, and can go very sideways.

You can even fit a RWD tailshaft to the 4x4 main case (saving the cost of a RWD v6 type 9) if you want to
|
|
To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Oh and why would you want to make a XR4x4 rear wheel drive they're handle really well if you learn how to drive them properly, and can go very sideways. Matt I know you can get the xr4x4 sideways and I know they handle well, but I prefer rwd. Drive a few 4wd sierras and I've always loved the 2wd ones more. The way I've looked at it is I can't afford a xr4i and I want a rwd V6 sierra. I've been offered a tatty xr4x4 and I want to skid it, so rwd is what I want to do.

I'm not sure you DO need a shorter prop - I can't 100% confirm, because I haven't ever made an XR4x4 into RWD.. but, that box I built, the one in the picture? After I unbolted and removed the center diff, chain drive and housing from the box, a standard t9 tail fitted it perfectly. The output shaft is the same one, ergo the boxes are the same length. All I had to do to the output shaft was fit a speedo drive gear to it (It even has the machined flat to take one )

Cant remember about the prop length, not that its hard to go look for a 2wd prop if you find out the 4x4 one don't fit.
Its not a bad plan converting a 4x4, they come lowered with gas shocks and LSD and all the toys usually so it saves you adding them your self, easy to fit the 24v to a V6 as well.

just a small point (you have probably already have thought of)
you will need to change the sump to steel 2wd one

only the 4x4's with rear discs had lsd's. the type 9 4x4 & 2wd are same length prop, the mt75 4x4 are shorter front half of prop compared to 2wd.

theres more to life than mpg & to much power is just enough.
