I'm treating the Viva to some Aldon ignition, and I saw this Multispark lead on ebay - boasting 'better fuel economy and performance' - but it's only £15. How does it work? Do they work? Or is it just a cheap toy - like gold plated audio leads on your £20 stereo?

These the ones with a "ball" in the lead? My mate bought one from the motorshow about 8 years ago. Turned out to just be a woodscrew rattling about in there. High tech! Even if is isn't one of those, it's very likely to do sod all. Make sure you have good condition ht leads, and save your money  |

Only experiance i've had is with a customers car, an 89 merc straight 6, he burnt out 3 dizzy caps in 5K before finaly listening to me and throwing the fooking thing away, 10k later it's still on the same cap ;D
It kept burning out the graphite centre electrode and the surrounding cap area would crumble to dust.

They've been around for Donkey's years under different brands. They have a small spark gap within, causing the coil voltage to go much higher before the spark forms, giving a slightly hotter spark in the combustion chamber.
Unfortunately the higher voltages tend to destroy coild, dizzy caps, condensers and points (the latter very quickly). I suspect that they wouldn't do an electronic ignition system's amplifier much good either - it may work for a while, but running transistors outside their rating kills them sooner or later.
In other words, don't waste your money. You'd be better off with a Lucas Sport coil and a decent set of plugs.

nice one chaps, cheers. the ignitor apparently burns out rotor arms and caps as well, so best avoided i rekon
