I've got a couple hundred pounds to spend on a welder.. At this price I'm looking second hand because I've never found 'hobby' migs to be any good.. So what have you got? Location isn't too much of an issue, I'm happy to collect/use pony express within reason. Cheers

I'm assuming you've tried on the mig welding forum? www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/index.phpThere is currently a Sealey 170/1 Supermig on there @ £180 which I am sure you could pick up for £150-£160?? Not sure if that's a good price or not? On the mig welding forum, Clarke seem to be quite highly rated in the sort of price bracket you are looking at. There is also something like this which will cover pretty much anything you'll need to do (I know you are quite partial to a bit of thicker metal as well as bodywork ;D)....and also has all the bits you'd need including the proper gas regulator: www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=18201I'd love to sugest Portamig's but they seem to fetch somewhere around the £400-£450 mark second hand

migatronic, butters, murex, cebora, miller etc.. all good makes..
in my experience stay away from sip sealy etc... i know there are many fans of clarke hobby migs but ive found that they very massively some can be ok and some terrible maybe its just the quality control on the cheeper welders that let them down??
tbh ive had a few butters welders and for a almost hobby mig price they have been fantastic... my 2p... si

Cheers I hadn't even looked on there, Bruce. Last time I was on there, the Main Man had said he saw no point in a for sale/wanted section because most people use a welder until it dies. Glad to see he's changed his mind. Si, the fact that a lot of the stuff I'm looking at on eBay is branded Sealey did make me wander whether that was the case. As with most things, if you look hard enough you'll find good and bad reviews depending on personal experience. I've had bad experiences with SIP myself. A welder is very much an investment, so perhaps I should keep saving if I can. Will definitely keep an eye on that forum now I know the for sale bit is there. eBay is a pain and stuff seems to go for more than its worth on there (unless I under value welders perhaps)
