Gladys just passed her MOT sadly this time with advisories
Misting of oil on both front shockers Oil leak slight exhaust blow.
Had to replace a couple of bulbs and one of the brake flexis was very slightly twisted although this did not affect braking performance whatsoever

Excellent news!
My non-retro polo passed today only needing the drivers side caliper rebuilt to stop it seizing.

My bike passed it`s test today ! Tough month for the fleet with the Cavalier (at SOC`s), Voyager (passed), Megane and bike(passed) all needing to be tested. Might even try the `39 for a laugh.

Good news on the pass.
But on a more serious note (call it scaremongering if you want), misting on the dampers is a sure sign that they are well past their best. Some new items will improve the car no end in road manners.

I am intending to rebuild them but I cant get spares at the moment so its going to be an improvise job. The reason they are misting is I have had to undo the gland nuts in order to prevent them from locking to such an extent that there not sealing brilliantly. I figured a slow loss of oil which can be topped up to be better than a strut through the bonnet.
I shall make up some cork gaskets and get some O rings and see if I can fix the ones on there, otherwise I will be looking for some 55 struts. I think they would be a worthwhile upgrade as they would convert the front brakes from drums to discs

Paul, if you've had to loosen the gland nuts to get movement then it's almost certain that the strut rods are bent - a known issue for them and part of the inspection in the manual when rebuilding struts. From memory the run-out limit on them is about 3 thou and by the time you need to loosen the glands you'll find you've got about 1/16th or more bend.
If they are then until you straighten or replace them you won't get a seal without locking them solid no matter what you do - if any seal is close enough to the rod to seal then it'll grip as the bent bit tries to move through it. They may seem to free up for a while but they will lock again when you least expect it.
You're unlikely to need spare parts to get them working 100% if you can get the rods straight.

Use struts of a 66, same but more about for parts.
The disc set up is not that much better than your drums, the 46 twin leeding shoe front drums are the best stopper fitted to a daf.
