Hello all I'm looking to buy an old Merc thats been laid up for a couple of years. The discs are very very rusty front and rear. Will they still be ok? or will I need to replace them (merc )? Thanks

you can often clean up surface rust, new discs wont be expensive anyway though for most mercs.

Hard to say without seeing how rusty they really are but new disks for a Benz won't be as expensive as you'd think EDIT: Lol, PopUp beat me to it... What he said ^^ ;D

My solution to cleaning rusty discs involves putting my left foot on the brake and driving the car around for a bit. ;D
Like Popup said though, new discs aren't really all that pricey for 'em.

as has been said, depends how bad they are. last year one of my car was on chassis stands without wheels on for 3 months. the disks needed replacing as you could remove the rust in flakes in excess of 1mm thick. I was suprised how bad they were though. Ive also got some disks on another car in my garage that hasnt run for 10 years and they should clean up fine.

best not to drive them around to clean them up if thick as the rusty flakes will curse word up the caliper seals if they were buggered to start with. if they arn't that worn i'd whip the disks off, and give them a light skim, or stiff wire brush. but if they are cheap enough just order them up. most mercs seem to be cheap,£30 a pair is the norm.
