This old beasty had a 3.1 Essex, high lift cam, K&N, big dual exhausts, and some other goodies, rocket box, 105E rear 4.1 gears and the Escort front end with the Mk1 Escort crossmember, rack & pinion steering, Capri column, Rover P6 remote sevo disc brakes, etc. This is how I got it Much work was put into straightening and tidying the body. Thats my mate Leigh and #2 partner in crime working on the boot lid Yeah, probably looked best in the dark.... You should have heard the coments from passers by... Got it a bit straighter, but it was never going to be 100% So I barcoated it and primed it. Ran it like that in "ghost grey satin" for a bit Then finished it off in gloss black before I finally sold it. It was fun, but I needed money to move house.

That is superb.
I always think the 100E shell was stronger than the 105 shape

Always preferred the 100E shape to the 105E too. My first one was a bone stock minter of a 107E, really miss that car sometimes and always wanted chrome headlamps on it!!!

Are there any engines that go perticularly easy into these 100/5/etc/E/etc range cars that may not neceserily give huge performance or indeed have to be a huge engine but just make them more practical for daily driving?

^Hope you didn't think I was 'slagging' 105's cause I love the shape as well, it's just our families experiance in the past was the metal/construction seemed a little thicker on the 100E (but had bottom of wings 'pop').

Aye, when I had it it was mentioned on OSF. Having sold my only running Fords I don't venture over there much at the moment.
GJM - Fiat twinks, Pintos, "either V6" go in without too much drama. The problem is you need to change the front struts and steering, and while you're at it the crossmember might as well go for an Escort Mk1 one.... Means modifying the top mounts and being a little creative so its not a bolt in deal. crossflow should go in with no cutting so long as you can live with the drum brakes.

Doesn't need to be that complex, there is a kit available to convert standard 105E legs to use Mk1/2 Fiesta discs and that will adapt easily to the 100E leg which is nearly identical. Costs about £130, not much. The 100E steering box is adjustable so you don't get the normal steering box curse word steering, you just nip it up to take up the play. No mucking about with shims etc.
Engineswise you can use all of the above or if you can lay your hands on the later 4-door called a 107E prefect, that came with a 997cc Anglia 105E engine and 'box and any of the crossflows are a direct swap with no cutting.

I thought the box and centre link get in the way of the sump if you try and put anything much bigger than a crossflow in it?

Yeah sorry, should have made that clear. You could do it if you chopped up the sump so the bowl is on the front but anything heavier than the crossflow and you'd need to be Geoff Capes to turn the wheel. There's a nice retro strongman for the retro rides forum
