It is with a very heavy heart that I have decided to sell my glorious Rover P6 3500... Limited storage space & a new project has forced my decision & there is no turning back now...!
The Rover 2000 was introduced in 1963 and was an instant sales success, transforming Rover from staid gentlemans brand to something the young upstarts took a shine to... This image was further bolstered in 1968 when the Buick 3500cc V8 engine was placed in the P6's ample engine bay... Adding the extra 'ooomph' to what was already a mechanically advanced car made it an instant hit & something of a mould breaker... It was so good, in fact, that it soldiered on until the introduction of the more modern looking, but far less advanced, SD1 in 1976 (the last P6B being made in 1977)...
And so to my car... This particular P6B was registered on the 1st of August, 1974 and was bought from the legendary Coombes of Guildford (it still has the original dealer plates!)... It is an automatic model with highly desirable Power Assisted Steering and Sundym tinted glass all-round. It comes in the glorious colour of Tobacco Brown and has the Huntsman (Brown) vinyl roof with matching C-pillars and sill covers... The interior is Black 'box-pleat' nylon and it is infinately more comfortable than the leather or ambla trim offered on these cars!
The car is showing a tad under 61,000 miles on the odometer and although there is no history file to back this up the ambience and honesty of the car itself leads me to believe this is genuine but the viewer can make their own mind up on that aspect of the car! The bodywork is exceptionally solid all-round and although the paintwork may need some minor local repairs here and there it is thoroughly presentable and not bad at all, it is just as an original car from 1974 should be... The interior is equally as tidy and is a genuinely relaxing place to be with the smaller (as fitted to all PAS cars), leather covered, steering wheel being infinately adjustable and all the major controls being easy to reach and use... The P6 was one of the first cars to take ergonomics really seriously...
On the road this car is, without question, superb...! When you start that engine the V8 burble is sublime and as the revs climb and the speed increases that burble becomes a growl, it is magnificent... The all-round disc brakes help scrub off speed exceptionally quickly and they are very effective... The suspension is soft and supple without being too wallowy to allow for a comfortable ride with superb grip through the corners... The engine in this particular car is showing superb oil pressure, gets to a good running temperature and is really very strong (further backing up the mileage)... It has been serviced recently and is truly as good as it gets!
The car has just been put through its annual MOT (runs out June 2011) with no problems at all and is also taxed for the next few months (runs out at the end of August) so it is ready for the most pleasurable summer driving imaginable... The car is also fitted with a tow bar so it is perfect for hauling that vintage Sprite caravan to classic car shows or, of course, carrying a trailer full of tat for the obligatory rubbish dump day out...!!! Being such a usable classic I would be more than happy to do both...
As I said there is no history with the car but I do have the owners manual, an Autodata service manual and documents showing the work (and money!) I have had done to this car over the time I have owned it...
So to sum up we have a glorious example of arguably Rover's finest motor car from a time when the company could do no wrong (even though it was run by BL!)... When it was new it was favoured by the rozzers and the gentry alike and you can feel like either depending on how you drive, it truly does have a Jekyl & Hyde persona... This is one of those cars that can be used straight away, every day, or can have a little bit of time lavished on it to make it absolutely perfect. I do not want to sell it but you have to keep moving on don't you...?!?!?!
Telephone offers will not be accepted for this car, if you are truly interested you should come and view the beast before making a genuine, realistic, offer... If anybody out there has any questions or queries please feel free to contact me and I will try to answer you the very best I can.
And so to the price I suppose...! I am looking for £2475 but, of course, sensible offers will most certainly be considered
PLEASE CALL AFTER 19:00 HRS (sorry to be awkward!)... PLEASE LEAVE A MESSAGE IF I AM UN-ABLE TO ANSWER & I WILL RETURN YOUR CALL... MANY THANKS...
