I need a competent sparks to rewire a 50's dynamo from 6volt to 12volt. Tis on my old Renault Prairie-and 6v lights are just too dim. I've tried 12v -starters much quicker, wipers seem to cope,so now I needto sort the dynamo.
Replacements not an option - its a strange single mount Ducelier-hence the request. The old boy in Horley I used to use seems to have moved on;and I cant find him
So-anyone recommend a good Sparks - preferably southcoast or nearby? Thanks.

Tried using 6V halogen bulbs. Their almost as bright as regular 12V. Provided its not sealed beem and the dynamos in good nick it should be able to cope with them

Thanks all. Halogen 6v would make the h/lamps brighter -its the rears, indicators that worry me. On a bright day -they're invisible. And I'm tanked off with the starter churning at such a slow speed -worries me that it',ll not start. 12seems MUCH better
I'll give Steve @ GS a bell - will go up to Chessington if Ineed too. Address/phone number would help if poss.
Thanks all

The rears shouldn't be any brighter on 12v because the bulb ratings will be the same - 21w for indicators and brakes , 5w (possibly 4w) for tails. A 21w 6v bulb is just as bright as a 21w 12v because they're both the same power. Where 6v loses out is it's 4 times as sensitive to bad connections so a slightly iffy connection that you won't notice on 12v will make things obviously dimmer on a 6v system.
By all means convert to 12v (much cheaper and easier to get bulbs for a start) but go through the wiring and get it working right on 6v first, or you'll be storing up problems for the future!

Thanks for that. SM. I already have done, twice! 6volt bulbs are all working properly -washed & cleaned the lenses etc-but they're still damn dim! I've had an offer of a rewind at £160 -think I'll take it.
Cheers

Am I right in thinking you can get 6v LED bulbs? Would be interesting to know if they're any cop - but I doubt they're cheap.
