Got a new rack delivered yesterday so I got some new track rod ends fitted to it and connected that up Got the hubs and rack brackets painted up and put them on too Spot the snapped grub screw Connected one ball joint up but the bolt for the other side that goes through the hub snapped connected the track rod ends up as well, gonna have to unbolt the ball joints from the arms later when I get some tie bars sorted out but it gave me something to do anyway lol

where abouts in durham are you? we have 2 nova SR's a black one soon to be redtopped and a totally standard early 1.3 sr in need of some pretty extensive restoration I live in Trimdon mate, the car is at my mates in Coxhoe though. Yesterday and today consisted of stripping the red Nova down as its been sold and got taken away today good luck to the new owner as I'd love to see that looking nice again. So today I did finally got the car on the ground its sitting too low so once I've got the tie bars on its gonna be coming up an inch or so, although there is a bad side 3mm spacers didn't help either Used a No Fear energy drinks can to demonstrate how low it sits I also spent god knows how long looking for the keys which have magically vanished Tomorrow will involve running the brake lines for the fronts, fitting the clocks and seats and hopefully changing the rear suspension so I can give a mate his shocks and springs back, he's only been waiting 6 months

Not alot has happened today, Gareth did the front brake lines for me, not something I've done before and expensive kit I couldn't afford to replace if I broke anything, but it looked easy enough to do. I went to fit the clocks but noticed the steering column is pointing at the door will sort that out tomorrow and hopefully finish most/all of the interior, I also messed with a few other bits and bobs but nothing interesting, here's a picture anyway.

Been sorting the interior out at the minute, not alot going on really. Robbed this light switch pod thingy off Gareth as the one I had, had some weird stuff stuck to it, Gareth chopped a hole for a shift light but it'll do for now, could use it for an keyfob immobiliser port. Steering column is a bit on the curse word Left to do: Couple of interior bits Extend the engine loom Fit the engine Swap the rear drums/shoes/wheel cylinders/hand brake cables Pipe brakes up Adjust camber so the wheels aren't touching the springs Sand down and repaint the whole car, except engine bay Find a rear bumper and drive shafts Get the Parada's on the rear wheels Then its ready in its first stage.

Well got up at 8am (didn't know there is two 8 o'clocks in one day ) and Gareth picked me up just after 9, the engine is finally in place in a fashion but I've discovered I need the metal mount for the drivers side and a gear linkage, could have sworn I'd seen a mount lay about but obviously not. Pics The slam panel took a beating off the EGR valve, I never thought to remove it first never mind its done.

Finally the engine is mounted in on all mounts It was this mount I was missing, thanks to AlexW for sorting that out for me at a good price, top lad him. After getting the engine in I spent most of today adjusting the coil overs and tightening some nuts and bolts up on the tie bars/bottom arms as I had just put them on quickly before and had to swap some of the bolts and find bits I'd misplaced I raised the front end up on the coil overs by 1.5 inch Its still too low lol next job was figuring out what plugs on the loom went where, not sure I have it right but this is just a mock up, going to have to find a wiring diagram for the C16XE loom and X16XE engine Once that wiring is figured out and done, I've got some jobs I love doing Gotta sand them back to bare metal as the primer kept reacting, I've got some nitromoors to help me along with it but even that takes its time, got to take the doors back to bare metal too I hate this part of the build

Been and done a bit more today, rolled one rear arch so far bit hard to get at the other side due to the car being at an angle but I'll do that soon. I attacked one of the wings with some sandpaper, got a bit of it done which took forever so out came the nitromors got all the old primer and paint off it but still some of the phosphate coat to come off, what a time consuming, painstaking job that is. I'm considering removing the helper springs out the suspension too That's an inch and a half raised and the helper spring is just getting compressed and the car hasn't raised much

So yesterday I removed the helper springs which was a fun job, would have lost a testicle if I was stood at the side of the car while undoing it As I said earlier in the thread I was having trouble with the geometry and the tyre was touching the front shock, after playing about with the track rod end and moving the hub about on the ball joint, then playing with the geometry this is how its currently sitting Still quite close hmmm, it may require more messing I also got the drive shafts fitted which I was quite pleased about and surprised how easily the passenger side one slid in and clicked into place, the colour of them doesn't match the theme I was going for but I'm not complaining as they're one of the last things I needed to get the car drivable (not that it is yet) And of course, there was more painting to be done, this is where things get bad. During the week, after working on the beast I put a pretty much full tin of primer under the engine, it sat nicely under the manifold with no reason to fall over but it did, somehow, and spilled its contents out as the lid mustn't have been on properly It was etch primer too, and my wings had bare metal spots and I had messed up big time on one with THE biggest run ever (it looked like I had poured the primer on, not sprayed it ) but never the less I managed to scrape enough together to cover the bare spots and also get a bit painting done Oh it was fun sanding all the runs out of that, I stopped counting the hours after 2 I then got this wing painted up, again a few runs in it but this isn't painted breeze blue, its just a base coat which is similar to breeze blue There was some paint left in the gun so I scratched the primer on the other wing with some 800 grit and fired the load over it, turned out there wasn't enough but it'll do for now I also got the bonnet sanded down just to pass a little time

So I've been and done a bit more work recently. The wings are now back in primer awaiting a second coat then they should be ready for painting Manged to get one inner arch coated in tetra schutz Now for those who remember that inner rear arch from the beginning of the thread, I've had a poke and prod at it and its pretty ugly And the outer arch/sill area drivers side And back panel I started scraping the emulsion off the doors, remember they had been brush painted white? And while at it I had a look at the bottoms, only one little bit of rust (mostly dirt you can see in the pics) I think this one had a bit of rust on the left hand side drain hole My deadline is this weekend, the only parts I need are front bumper iron rear bumper (inc iron) headlights and exhaust so I emailed Colin and he has the parts, I just cant get down to him to get them off him

Got some stuff done today thanks to Gareth and Danny for their help. Today has been mostly painting, although we ran out of paint primer and hardener (even though they were new tins, I wasn't happy with the paint so we kept re doing it til it was gone ) The results so far, its not a perfect job as the gun seems to have spat some curse word on the panels, but it has been painted in a garage at the bottom of a garden and has been a learning curve for all involved. Doors Mmm shiny The wings were finished and I went over them with some 1200 grit, need to G3 them now We ran out of paint before we could do the rear quarters so had to zinc prime them as the car is outside for the moment Should have moved the spare glass sets before painting eh, hindsight is a wonderful thing Removed the badge from the bonnet so put some bodge in to fill the holes That didn't make the painting process And a random pic of the car to finish, I hosed it down after this pic, it was coated it a years worth of dust and grime, needs a proper wash Gutted I ran out of paint etc as I'm now skint to the bare bones til payday
