Not really retro but always wanted one since I had a poster of the BTCC one years ago! Been offered an M plate 2.0 GLT estate with short T&T for much cheapness:) What should I be looking out for? My old 740- just to keep the post retro

I picked up this one a coupla years ago for also much cheapness,it was high mileage at 240k,i had zero trouble with it,only sold it cos I was bored of it but have regretted it ever since, was such a comfy ride, especially long distances..it was on 245k and last I heard it was on 260k and still tows caravans + family up and down to devon effortlessly as well as the daily commute... Cant think of anything to report, was a 2.5 GLT Auto, got a bit clunky engaging 1st and reverse occasionally but was probably only due to dirty ATF fluid Oh and the rear shocks + mounting bushes needed replacing,a common fault apparently but only cost me 80 quid all in and took about an hour to replace Would have another like a shot if offered

If you want an 850 go for a t5 manual, there heavy on juice but a fantastic car to drive, truly solid build quality and great grip in the dry, bit slippy in the wet tho . I had a m plate with decat and a 4 inch straight thru stainless exhaust, a little noisy but the sound that came out the back when the foot was down was pure 5 cylinder sex! I was looking for a 2.0 when I happened across the T5 at a garage so I took it out for a spin, within 5mins I was back waving my credit card like a drowning man! ;D Whichever model look for general car check stuff really, smoke on start up etc, noisy gearboxes and the such like. They have a habit of eating top engine mounts/brackets iirc. One other thing, if you like a pie and a pint like myself the seatbelts can be very tight ;D You can get an extender quite easy for about £20 tho. (edit) forgot to add, big milages are quite normal and no problems for them, mine had done 120k but I'm sure it had been knocked back a few at sometime, lol. Here's a pic of my old one.

I had an Auto T5, good in every way except economy (30mpg on a run, 23ish everyday). You get a lot of car for your money, plenty of poke and plenty of luxuries usually too. Recommended.

A little slow, but good reliable cruisers, probably the most enjoyable large fwd I've spent time driving

I own a T5 too, you may find the 2.0 a bit slow, especially if its a 10valve, you can tell by looking at the engine, if its says DOHC is a 10v. High mileages on them are nothing to worry about, they ain't in till 150k+! Mines about to have a rebuild, should be back with about 400bhp! This is mine

They are awesome cars!!!!!!!! I bought my 1997 850R 10 months ago. You can fit so much stuff in them and if you got for a t5 or an R lthey go like stink. Thirsty though and parts for the R are expencive for example clutch on mine squeaks a little not slipping "yet" but phoned up my local garage to find out how much a clutch was they said its £400 for the clutch alone but they could probably do it for £350 so fully fitted i'd be looking at £500. Really though there is something so ace about going fast in something that is as comfy as your grannys living room.

Looks nice in that Grey, I've wanted one for a while since my mate's dad had one when I was a lad. It was in that yellow colour, and a Saloon.
He also had a Carlton GSi 3000 before that.

I had a T-5 replica on an M-plate, 216K on the clock but drove and looked like new (under the bonnet) it was an estate with a tow bar, used it to tow cars and all sorts, fantastic car, would have kept it if I had the room. It was the 2.5 petrol version, loved it, loved it, loved it. Would I have another, you bet I would ;D
Cheers,
Stu.

Cheers for the info guys! T5 defo on want list, but will need to save up for a while. Went for the cheap one in the end- 2.0 20v GLT estate (7 seater). Maybe not that quick but much faster than my Partner and Matiz:) 4 Weeks MOT, 2 months tax, 1/2 tank of fuel. £150. Gave it a little blast on way back but seems to have sprayed oil over top of engine! Suggestions?

I too had a T5, loved it utterly, was looking for another recently. as has already been said the more fun you have, the more it costs. They love a set of front tyre!
