Hi guys I have a problem, upon reinstalling my wbx in my bug I have found that the hose flange has a crack in it and is leaking. Now I am trying to get hold of a replacement one but they very hard to find because they are obsolete parts and because these engines are getting rare and coveted. So I have considered making one but the dickie bow style O ring is a problem. I have thought about using a flat rubber gasket but am unsure if this will work due to the heat. Any ideas? Thanks.

does it need to be a "dickie bow" oring or can it just be a round one as if its just round it could be easy to make

I guess but it's copying the recess for the O-ring that's the problem.

if making one from steel is beyond you , you could try jb weld
theres a similar flang on the polo , i was too tight to buy a new one , so i vee'd the crack really well and built up 2 layers of the jb weld
didnt really expect it to last but it has

I have used Liquid Metal before and i do love it but this has a crack in the side of it and as it's plastic I doubt it would work. I need a more reliable solution.

jb weld should work as long as you do it right.

Find some scrap plastic of the same type then use a soldering iron to melt it into the crack. Plastic welding! Sorted!

Another possibility is Araldite. If you follow the instrustions to the letter, it's very durable. I've even heard of people using it to repair cracked blocks, and it's held for a couple of years.

I happen to have stephanhipwell's thread in my bookmarks, so have a link Class, it's a VW WBX out of a T3 van, it has same internals as a Type4 engine but bigger bore and water-cooled. Seems I may have to have a go at making one.
