Mk1 Mondeo daily is gone.... bought with 12 months MOT, driven for 12 months then sold for a profit with 0 MOT Bought this with the money, 10 months MOT 5 months tax It's got the right badge (well it did have before some scrote nicked it and half the interior) That is the worst view as that front corner has been battered at sometime, some goon repaired it, there is plenty of overspray on the bumper, but also overfilling ! It has an engine - needs a service and idles at 600rpm - I don't know how to tweak it up as I'm lost with injection motors unless it's diesel. Didn't like being pressure washed but ran ok again once I dried the dizzy cap This is it as it arrived home from Plymouth It's since been cleaned, scotch padded and polished and a large amount of crud and some paint were removed I've a soft spot for the little Polo, it's a hoot to drive, grips like you would not believe and driving it is like being 17 in your first car again. Takes half a day to reach any speed and you back off for nothing - momentum is king. Tad embarassing doing those overtakes where you inch past the other car and it takes forever. The neighbours thought I'd finished my Golf project car until I pointed out it was different. Plans??? replace missing interior, tidy it, hit it, add some wheels, roller it, drive it., giggle.

Not a bad little thing, I'm a fan of the Polo, can be made to look really good without too much effort Now, the scotch padding thing, how does that work then?

Grey scotch pad, shown in engine bay picture above next to suspension turret.
Soak it in fairy liquid, add some water and scrub. Rips into grime, paint, rust tar spots - leaves a lot of scratches. and a decent key for paint

Ah, I see, thought it was something you'd done prior to polishing, as I really need to give the Merc a good clean and polish!

I do love a mk3 bready, fun times. Know what you mean about inching past people on the overtake, that made me chuckle. So silly question, is she a 1 or a 1.3 then? Looks like a 1.3?

looks like youve got yourself a bargain, looking at that engine looks like an NZ, its similar to a gt (3f engine), its a 1.3 and uses multi-point injection but has vacuum advance ignition, nippy engine!

It is that engine, not that nippy but it's getting better and would benefit from a service. I noticed some timing marks scratched into the dizzy - re-aligned them and all is good. Better power too! My boy loves daddie's new car, and has got the look. Looks sweetness and light, but the little darling left my lights on (and everything else) and I was shoving this morning. Meanwhile, the rubbing strips are gone, I found some wheels at the end of the shed that took a few hours to strip, the olive drab paint is bought, I've attacked some rust scabs, treated them and primed them...... Took the door trim off earlier, knocked out some dents and got the remote mirror unseized, Boot badges gone and the holes filled. Tonight I had to paint up my wheels and a load of Golf bits satin black and wanting to protect the polo from any overspray I covered the front end with a dustsheet.... Silly me, somehow the bonnet was accidently left uncovered and it got a little bit of over spray on it. bit of a cliche thing now, the black bonnet....it'll look right when the rest is done. bring on the paint roller, rims and the stick.....

I'd been prepping bits of rust and filling a few dents then the missus went out Saturday night.... rollertime! This was how it looked Sunday morning, bit patchy and a few bits missed due to working in the dark. The white blotches are left as they will be sprayed in later, maybe tint the rear windows? Came home tonight and quickly masked up for the black bits, then the missus turned up from work.....remember this car was never meant to have become a project, just a cheap daily to buy and drive for a few months and concentrate on the Golf I had kept the Polo hidden and she was hungover on Sunday and never actually saw the polo until today. The look on her face as she mouthed "WHAT THE FACK HAVE YOU DONE" - absolutely priceless! "You've ruined it, why have you done that?" To which I replied "You, my dear know nothing, lets ask the boys"....my 3 and 6 year old are jumping up and down saying "Wow daddy it's so cool" :music: Then I got on with the few black bits.... I'm waiting a wing and front panel so it's not totally finished. Next I'm gonna sort out the ruined rear silencer that has been crushed in a rear end accident (high curb?) that has left it choked and bent downwards limiting clearance. Once this has been sorted I can hit it with the stick. Oh and she did actually confess later.....yeah it does look cool.

i bet that rear silincer will be killing the performance. had one clog up on an old polo gt i did up. wouldnt get to 50mph. ripped the box off and it went like stink in comparison. you should keep an eye out for a gt cam. the nz will produce around 70bhp with one fitted and you can pick them up for £30 to 40.

I'm quite proud of the fact I haven't a clue who they are.. ;D I've got to do something about that backbox to get some power... Knocked up a pipe from a mk1 golf midsection Concerns about it's straighthrough baffle were justified as soon as I started the car, I whacked a bit of gauze in it but it was still loud. too loud. Sounded great but I couldn't live with it. But my revs were back, in fact the pickp was very rapid, though I'd lost a slab of torque low down. I got the rear section of the old golf exhaust and grafted the back box in. What a transformation! Sound is now slightly louder than stock but still quiet, the low down power is back, though I've lost out in the top end. Not happy with how close the exit is to the tyre, I slash cut it.

Polo pete sorted me out with a few bits - bits of dash, a wing and front panel. He also sorted me out with some polo knowledge - Cheers bud He also sorted me out with a centre console in a LOVELY shade of pink - whilst I was doing the wing and front panel I had paint left on the roller - so I ruined it. Also the standard 4" front speakers were broke, the cones completely detatched from the suspension and sounded awful - so with my usual budget in mind I set to work. MDF free from bloke at work Set of hi fi speakers that have been in the loft for 15 years Some cloth left over from the caddy re-trim £0

(pssst) all the cool kids call them 'breadvans', the cooler kids call them 'breadys', don't ask me why. When I say Hatchback they get confused, so I stick to Bready or Breadvan... even though I actually refer to mine as a Midget Hearse more often than not. Very smart looking parcel shelf, with handily colour coded speakers too.
