Friend of mine just bought a hand held Makita sand blaster for a tenner or so to strip his spotlights for his truck. Seemed to do an ok job, might be an idea if you have a compressor?

I stripped back my wheels to bare metal using Sand paper, alot of elbow grease and a few wire-brush wheels on a chorded drill. Took them back to bare metal, 3 layers of primer, 3 layers of paint, 3 layers on laquer. Jobs a good'un. In total it cost me less than £20 for 4 wheels (Well, ive only got around to doing 3 at the moment!) in matt-black. You can tell they're home-brewed, But they look fine at 'normal' viewing distances its only when you stand up close and stare at them you can notice the few problems. Few bits i want to flat back and try again with, But I'm more than happy enough for 20 squids. Very Time consuming though!. Budget a whole weekend for it, atleast. ![](http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/omgitsaj/Pugly%20106/08072010072.jpg)

If you're on a very tight budget, good old Nitromors and elbow grease. Wash and try thoroughly, rub down any corrosion pitting and then paint.

I have used Nitromors on a set of compomotive alloys in the past. It worked a treat just put it on leave it for a bit and wash off,job done.

I did my fake amg monoblocks a few weeks back, or at least I tried!
Tried nitromors 3 times on one rim and it wouldn't shift the coating, I ended up taking them to a local powder coaters that dipped, blasted and powdercoated them in black for £25 a rim.
Thats in leicester though so probs a bit too far from you.
