right.... I bit the bullet and bought a car ive been after for ages... some of you may remember me asking about different cars then deciding on a carlton a while back... well now ive got the boat I need something more suitible... then up pops the vauxhall idea again.. ;D quick phone call to someone listing one on ebay... went to view and now I own it got it for less than expected... found a few problems that wernt listed... I.E the drivers door window is tempramental... and the rocker cover gasket is "weeping" other than that... spot on... One owner from new (ish) full history... every single reciept and looked after regardless of cost.. Drives like an absolute dream... spec'd up with full leather, heated seats and electric everything... Even has oap spec dog guard in the back (allready promised jack the jack russel a ride out in it ) Its only a 2.0 injection but goes welll.... anyone reccomend any preventatory measures I should take before pressing it into daily use? the last year or so its been used as the weekend shopping wagon...... I'm gonna change the rocker cover gasket, and possibly the auxbelts... other than that I'm gonna polish its off and service it all up so I'm comfortable using it ... this wasnt just a replacement for the polo for towing dutys... This was a complete change for me... by by to vw's at least for the time being... I'm gonna broaden my scope with makes...the last time I tried it didnt go well with a nova with a blown hg, but I'm confident that even if that happened now I can change it... not a problem....

Congrats......Carltons are lovely cars, and that 115bhp 8V lump's EPIC. One of the best four-pots ever IMHO. Not mega fast, but a real mile-muncher and still capable of 35mpg in everyday use. I don't think I've ever seen one that didn't leak oil out of the cam cover gasket, that's nowt to worry about.
Waxoyl it, pay special attention to the rear arches/door shuts....if you remember the one Akku's just sold you'll already know that it's a real grot-spot on them.
Great purchase!

AHH akkus was going on the arches.... must check arches lol... Oh and didnt know the lump was 115bhp... thats not bad ... it did go well , not much low down but mid range revs it just pulls and pulls...

Nice one dude!!! I had a 2ltr 8v and it had over 300k on the clock and ran like a dream my had a dodgy window too, they have a preassure sensor so ya can't cut your fingers off and the runners and mech gets gummed up, if the window stops part way up, try giving it a pull, if the motor clicks in and it starts to work again then you've got the same problem, just give it all a good clean and lube only other problem mine had was every 6 months I had too clean the idle control valve with brake cleaner cos it gets gummed up and the idle turns to sh!t. Good buy bud, nice drifty barge you got there ;D you'll never look at a wet roundabout the same way again

Carlton's rock. Carlton's are great.... Anyway, enough nostaglia.. As well as the rear arches, also check the front chassis rails, especially under where the steering box & idler arms bolt on. Also, the rear rails above the subframe where they curve under the rear floor are also prone to a bit of corrosion... If your rear arches are sound, then remove the rear door locks & get some waxoil in there!! You appear to have a Carlton "Diamond", a kind of run out model. Nice seats, like the GSi seats but full leather! Lucky you!!

haha cheers guys... wanted it for ages so had to do it eh Yeah its the diamond model... am I right in thinking the omega was allready on sale at L reg? The youtube vid I put up is the only advert for one on youtube and it happens to be the diamond model too... with griff rhys jones narrating it....lol oh and as for rust... the beauty of it is the son of the people that owned it is a welder/mechanic by trade I saw s bit on the back of the sill they did last year as they took the sill covers off to clean it all properly.. and noticed a bit of grot... they tidy'd it up and welded a piece in and its way way above expected Mot standard welding... gonna get handy with the waxoil on this one... gonna have to find all the lil holes to squirt it thru.... Are the diffs very strong ? ive heard the gsi ones let go pretty suddenly... was wondering if it might be worth me changing the oil in the as quick as poss....
