Interesting to see he's left all the old ignition system on as a back up to EDIS coil pack set-up.
Nice motor though, exactly the way to go to keep your classic a useable vehicle.

Absolutely great! I've had a hankering for an A35 for some time. It was one of the first classic cars I worked on at college, and my first ever sniff of stale petrol. Ah, memories! ;D

Ah, memories! ;D haha same here... On my engineering course. Me and one other guy were the only people allowed to touch it as it belonged to the tech tutor... He trusted me as he saw me admiring it and had a proper chat to him about it, unlike the rest of our group that just took the p*ss out of it... Id love one... In that weird green they did.... Or light blue. Poss gulf colour blue. A standard midget engine would do me fine and some wide rostyles.... Wonder if I'm too tall for one? 6Ft?

Thanks for the great pics Seth! This one was featured in Retro Cars or another mag last year I think, although from their pics you couldn't appreciate just how well engineered this thing is. Damn it I've got to pull my finger out and get one of these before I turn into an old gimmer. I've been keeping a Marina 1275 A Series with 17k miles that's been waiting in my garage to go in one of these for the last 10 years!

Don't worry I'm 6ft2 and I fit in mine easly. I have always had a thing for thees as I can still remember my dads A30, it had a 1275 lump and bucket seats as well as rostyles and a sporty steering wheel. It was the same pale blue as the one above.

I know the car and owner from Aylesbury. Well known car in the owners club and he's the clubs technical information officer - very knowledgeable.
I'm upgrading my A35 at the moment, but in an attempt to be a little different I've opted for a Rover K-series 16v with a type 9 box. Its a tight fit ! progress is slow but progress is progress.

I own this car and this site has just been pointed out to me.
The car weighs at least 890kg with all the extra bits on board (Cast iron Sierra box, bigger brakes, wheels and tyres etc etc etc. I weigh another 105 kg !!
Despite this and the very low first gear in the Sierra box I got down to 16.6 at Avon in July.
The real problem is that it has a 3.7 diff which is pretty high (I cross the line in third at about 6800rpm) and the weight of course. The low first gear means that i tend to rev it to 7k+ to get it on boost and pulling in second, but the power is dropping by then.Add to this the half shaft delicacy and I am doing the best I can. Lots and lots of wheelspin at Santa Pod more recently and back over 17 again !
The car is used as a normal car and has been to Scotland and will be going again next year. Its perfectly tractable and quiet too, with all the performance coming in at 4000rpm,so the torque curve is quite flat(and low!) up to about 3500 and then goes almost vertical.
Yes this is the car that was in Retrocars nearly two years ago, but quite heavily modified since then.
Very flattered at all the interest - if anyone wants to see it in action for the last time this year it will be at Kop Hill hillclimb next Sunday, near Princes Risborough in South Bucks.

Just an update on what happened over the winter.
I planned an upgrade to a more modern turbo, the Garrett GT1752 as fitted to Saabs, among others. I also had some lower compression turbo pistons and a more suitable camshaft available.
Cutting a long story short, the engine was in and out 4 times, the cam chain snapped at one stage (don't ask) and the car was briefly on fire in the workshop.
However, it is now running in on low boost and is an entirely different animal. It now has boost from 1600rpm and will pull in 5th from that speed.Previously, as mentioned above, it took around twice that revs to get any action.
I also now have some super strong half shafts made from EN30 steel, heat treated, so I have high hopes of much better times at Avon this year even if neither I or the car have lost weight !
