Inspired by daves post on sanding Well ive totaly lost the thread for this car in readers rides now so il post some pics here. The bodyshells almost done. 1 more coat of primer and then top coat. Trouble is i don't have a new roof yet so i cant relly go any further on the shell Some quite substantial wagging on the rear quaters/ drivers a-panel/rear light area/filler cap was required as suspected Filler primer and stone chip on the door steps/valance (i love stone chip! no prep! ) Got to do it all again on this bit now! and its worse Its times like this when i relise how much i like welding, I think I'm going to finsih the fuel tank tomorrow as a nice break

Cool, there's something nice about seeing a car down to the bare metal, so long as it hasn't been bodged to death over the years. I'm in the process of doing bodywork on the Imp at the moment, but I reckon I won't be doing bare metal for a couple of reasons: 1-There's a frightening amount of paint on there, it seems to have been maroon originally, then it's been painted quite thickly in turquoise paint, then dark green paint, then it's had the dihorrea gold paint it wears now applied with a trowel by the looks of it, so going bare metal would be a total b*stard of a job, and 2-based on the quality of worksmanship I've found on the rear wheelarches and a couple of other bits of the car so far, I'm slightly frightened of what I'll find under the 8" thick paint! ;D ;D But your Mini looks pretty cool, it'll be gorgeous when its done.

Its been 'spruced' quite a bit tbh I'm glad i went back to bare metal, it only took a few days of scraping with stripper and then go over it all with wire brush on a grinder. It saved loads of sanding around the doorshuts and bits like that. After seeing the result of bad prep on these bits on loads of cars (the paint just flakes off the fiesta where who ever painted it didnt bother with sanding it properly!)
