Hi all, thought I'd give my trusty little Renault a thread on here! Bought it off here from RatDat and my partner collected it for me, I got it back home in mid June and think I've clocked up about 2500 miles since! It was bought as a second car whilst my beetle is still playing up and to eat miles between here and Wales, where Matty inconsiderately lives So, this is what it looked like back after it was collected First job done was to change the Gordini bumper for the cuter looking original one; Oh and name him 'Bruno'! Since then I drove it back to Kent to live outside with the Bug. Been using it as my run around here and to go to Wales, returning 60mpg on a long steady (but not slow!) motorway run! We just got back from taking it to Le Bug Show 2010 at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, and stopped off in France for a few days after that too and the Renault behaved perfectly! Fully loaded with camping stuff, clothes etc..and it was fine That's all for now!

One of the happiest little cars ever made I reckon. As xbo11ox rightly says, switching back to the original bumper was a good move, aesthetically.

I've always wanted a phase 1 Renner 5! That's lovely. As others have said, the bumper swap has made a great difference. This is one of those cars that make you really smile when you see it.

Great to see this car stay 'in the family.' Bumper choice is spot on. Glad you're enjoying it!

Hey everyone not checked in for a while.. Still going great, now has seats fitted from the spare Renault 5 which came with this one, a 1973 model with low back black vinyl seats. They look great but the drivers one has collapsed and needs restuffing..and they are very unsupportive, even more so than the low back seats in my beetle.. One of my wheel bearings has begun howling on the back so I need to find out which side asap.. Anybody know where I can get one for less than the £19ish which GSF want?

Thread from the dead! Still have the Renault, still the only car me and 'the curly one' use at the moment while his VW bay is being restored and the same story with my poorly Jeans beetle. Being used and abused up here in North Wales where we now live, and is a fantastic motorway car to go back to Kent to visit my family whenever I get a chance I recently spent a lot of time recovering the original '83 seats after the '72 ones became far too uncomfortable both support-wise and sticky vinyl got too much in the cold/heat! The wheels have been painted white too since they were so rusty. They haven't come out the right colour I was hoping for though, wanted something a bit more ivory. Decided to go for something a bit beachy and summery. All sewn up using my 1911 Singer sewing machine with a hand crank a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/199806_10150466828135253_2017807_n.jpg[IMG/]Used him to take us two and my sister to Paris about a month ago for a weeks camping in Versailles! Photo to show the interesting rake involved..this was with just my sister and the luggage and fuel in.. on the ferry: Set up camp Got about a month until we're taking him to the South of France for 2 weeks, eek. Really got to find a window winder mechanism for the drivers side for that I think! If anyone knows of any for sale then please let me know!

Paul Cunningham, the Renault man in Worthing will have one. I've got Renault wheel centres -if you need them.
Nice to see an early 5 on the road- I've just started to weldathon & re-store on my 73 850 5.
