Is there any love for these?! I'll admit I ain't feeling it yet, but they must be coming up for some retro status in the near future... Not all that different from the Mk3 (although the Mk3 is prettier). A small part of me (possibly my brain) wants to buy a beige base model Mk4 for about £3.55, whack in some crazy turbo Zetec or other and go racing. lovely.

A decently unrusty one is defo on the fringes…. If I saw a really tidy one in a car park I’d probably go over and have a look at it for a few mins.
They are such shoddy rustbuckets that any which have lasted this long deserve a bit of attention at least.

There was nice one in fast ford or PF a few years back a teen called dan did a blue one with metalflakeish paint, filled indicators, reno 5 door handles etc, looked well nice, he went on to do a mean red mk2 on banded steelies...in....Black will look for a pic soon.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I still see the odd last-of-the-line "Eclipse" which was in a mid-metallic red or blue with a few bits bolted on, I valeted/PDI'd LOADS of those and the equivalent Orion "Equipe" when they were new

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!The one I owned a few years ago was improbably sh1te. 1300hcs finished in white & rust. Truly vile machine. My brother-in-law had a well-modded 'eclipse' a couple of years ago.. that was better but still deffo not retro. The only interesting ones (rst etc) have some way to go.... as the only once i ever see are bedecked with twatting bad-boy bonnets, cheap multi-fit wheels and driven by slack-jawed, knuckle scraping morons. It will be years before this damage will be undone in my book.

Thought it might get a 'mixed' reaction! looked better as a thumbnail! this blue one i'm on about was decent though, even if it did host a badboy bonnet, well it was 2000 or whatever. this guy did his own work. it really was inspiring for such a new and over abused model of car.

Heh, I knew this'd get a mixed response! I'm getting drawn to the Estate version (although I'd much prefer a Mk3) The only interesting ones (rst etc) have some way to go.... as the only once i ever see are bedecked with twatting bad-boy bonnets, cheap multi-fit wheels and driven by slack-jawed, knuckle scraping morons. It will be years before this damage will be undone in my book. This is true, but what got me thinking was the Isaac Hunt Nova thread. Not so long ago the only Nova's you'd see around were either Barried-up junk heaps, or saloons driven by elderly folk. It will take a long time for the memories of bad-boy bonets, nasty body kits, Blunkett-style interior "detailing" and baked bean tins jube-clipped to the exhaust, but it will happen.

I wouldnt rite off the mk4 compleatly. Just like any car they can be made to look good, always thought you could easily euro style one, after all they are not to dissimilar to the mk3 other than some piddly bits like the grille.
Heard the 1.3 is dire however ive just sold my 1.4 and it was a good engine, smoked like heck but went well and packed 75 bhp standard which cantbe mocked.
Agggeeesss ago someone posted some pics of some escorts at the nuremberg (i cun speeel mummmy!1) ring which really looked the dogs doodars.

About three years ago we built a 1.3 Valencia motored Mk4 for Fast Ford Magazine, it was black and smoothed with only the door handles remaining, no kit and had some louvres punched in the bonnet. Stripped out with a pair of buckets, some rock hard AVO coilovers and uprated brakes. I didn't want to like it but I did, in fact it rocked... A couple of cross country drives proved that brakes and handling more than make up for a lack of power. It ended up with a set of 15in Wolfrace seven spoke alloys and a cosmetic half alloy cage, but without those and some steels or maybe ATS rims, or even a set of Ronal turbos, it would have been my idea of goodness. Every dog has its day

i think it is coming! the differences between the MK3 and MK4 are quite minimal in my opinion so i don't think they are that different. am i imagining things, or did someone post a few pics of a euro MK4? silver/beige colour, slammed, with chrome ronal rims? and while on the subject, its worth mentioning that my gran has a E reg MK4, she bought it brand new and still has it. with FSH, but it is starting to rust still, cool all the same.
