Been a regular visitor to the forum for a while, but have now actually joined the ranks proper!
To the sale then - I have owned this car for a short period,but have reluctantly now decided to move it on. I say reluctantly because I don't know where you would find another one like this, but I've recently achieved my dream of owning a Triumph TR6, so sadly the BMW has to go. The car was bought to use as a Staff Car for Classic Car Weekly - it has been featured in the paper, as well as starring on our stand at the Bromley Pageant, where it went down a treat! Sadly though, its just too good to use as a daily driver, particularly because of the low mileage, so I'd like it to go to someone who can really cherish it.
It has had 4 former keepers other than myself, the first 2 were the original owner then his daughter for the first 27 years of its life. In terms of history it has the full, original book pack, manuals etc, the service book is stamped until '84 then it has mot's going back to '86 to prove the mileage which stands now at just over 80,000.
In addition to the book pack there is the original dealer order form, a letter confirming the order (the car was factory ordered and took 6 months to arrive!) and original brochure etc the spec is as follows;
316 Saloon in Sierra Biege with green interior as standard with the following options;
Rev counter, locking glove box, locking fuel filler cap.
In terms of condition it is something of a time-warp car, as you can see from the photographs, the paintwork is excellent, as is the chrome. As you would expect from a 31 year old car there are some marks etc, it is not perfect but I think as good as it gets for an original car. The interior is in a fantastic shade of dark green, carpets, upholstery, trim and headlining are all excellent. The original toolbox is still present on the underside of the bootlid, while the boot itself is a sight to behold, its so clean!
Mechanically the car is very good, it has a manual choke conversion, 4 spd gearbox and is quite a lively, nippy little car. Everything works and is a pleasure to use in comparison with other cars of the day. Its quite fun to drive, and still feels incredibly tight. It also has a brand new set of tyres, so sticks to the road surprisingly well!
Don't be fooled by the mileage either - 80,000 may not seem that low, but the overall condition of the car is that of one that's covered far less. If you're not sure, and are looking for a decent E21, then I urge you to come have a look for yourself - you will be surprised!
The car is MOT'd until April 2011, and has tax until the end of September.
In terms of faults, there is some noise from the transmission on the overrun, either gearbox or propshaft bearing, I've been assured that this is nothing to worry about and it's never really bothered me.
What makes this car unique is the spec and colour combination, the outstanding condition and the fact that it is totally original and un-'got at' Look at the pictures, I have been as accurate and honest in my description as possible, but genuine interested parties are more than welcome to come and have a look - I'm based in Wittering, just above Peterborough. In terms of price, bearing in mind the fabulous condition of the car, I'm looking for decent money, so offers in the region of £3250 are invited, though I'm pretty flexible. PXing could also be an option I can be contacted on 07921 853482, or emailed at: matthew.george@classiccarweekly.co.uk. Many thanks, Matt
