I got mine inc manifold from auto pitstop in coventry for about 300 sheets mate Whoa, best start saving then. Don't suppose you want to sell yours ;D Whilst the 2 L is out of the car it I'll pull the head off and give it a health check and any new bits as needed. Hopefully no more than belts and the odd gasket, time will tell. Current thoughts are to fit it in standard spec so I can feel the improvements a bit at a time as this will give me chance to save cash. Once the motor is in I'll see if I can get a 4 branch with a reducer for the standard system till it rots out/I have £££ for the rest. Hope the torque of the 2 Lwill mean better mpg's as I'll rev it less, probably not though ;D

I really like these - ever since the old man had a carousel. I learned in it and promptly 'messed' with it once test was passed. He wasn't best impressed until he floored it on the bypass once - I was forgiven ;D Lovely old girls these. Get her in once colour and dropped on the steels or the CX's and nothing else needed. Job well done fella. good luck with her (start buying void bushes ) John

I'd missed a lot since my last post, must have forgotten to bookmark you. Good to see the Cortina still doing admirable family service and those new alloys look nice... spokes in the steel wheel cream with a polished rim, perhaps? It's good to see a car being used, even if it does mean tinker time is compromised.

i bloody love mkV ford cortinas, had 6 of them and i find them the best older car i've ever owned. just utterly dependable, comfy, pokey, good on fuel, a 5 speed conversion takes 2 hours and gives you 2500rpm at 80mph. tbh tho i always prefered the 1.6 to 2.0 because it revs a lot better and seems to deal with bypass/motorway traffic in its stride.get a twin choke on it and dump the back box for some straight pipe.

Just spotted this up the board so thought I'd share the progress reports... jolly pain in the backside all really The good ladies golf family chugger has been ill of late with rumbling bearings that where to loud to carry on ignoring. Of course whilst I was there all sorts of other issues were spotted so it's been selfishly taking up all the car time as it's due a mot next month. Poor old Cortina has had to cope with just fluid checks and a quick wash once in a while between runs here there and everywhere. Took a few night shots on a long exposure the other night whilst smoking about, need a tripod really though a post with no pics is only a half post really. Thinking about it a big lump of play dough could be usefull as a makeshift tripod, maybe mounted on a wheelie bin or such like ;D I'd missed a lot since my last post, must have forgotten to bookmark you. Good to see the Cortina still doing admirable family service and those new alloys look nice... spokes in the steel wheel cream with a polished rim, perhaps? It's good to see a car being used, even if it does mean tinker time is compromised. Thanks, still mulling the wheel situation. It's nice to have choices though The Comps will stay on standard till the tyres die in a smoke fest and then the steels are back on I think. I likes them too ;D This one's my first and she's defiantly a keeper, I've wanted one for years and I'm not disappointed. The short stroke 1.6 goes well in my humble opinion, even if this one does blow a bit of smoke on start up though a few more torques wouldn't go amiss, neither would an extra gear come to that. As for drifting, I'm enjoying getting the back swaying out of corners though have had a few scary moments on (private) roundabouts. The under steer to over steer snap is a tricky one to catch, could well be I'm just a bit of a *fluffy kitten though Always on the look out for a empty carpark ;D *edit 4 bad word

Little bit of modding happened over the past few weeks. 1 x new steering wheel because the Mountney faux leather one just didn't feel right. Still not happy with the cheap looking centre bit though, need to find a cheap solution for that. Badgeless grill Props to diff for the idea and knowhow ;D

You could try painting the steering wheel boss brown to match the interior, might help it blend in a bit better than the black and is the cheapest solution I can think of. like the badgeless grille.

cords:- that wagon was a legend. rememeber drifting it around the island on the way to the griff meet? lol. stuck to the ar$e of your 2.3 if i remember right lol! ;D you shouldve seen it leave blackpool ford day 2007.....damp road+tramlines+the urge to upset the ex=lock to lock in 3rd for well over half a mile! funny as fook watching her go white and the escort and capri boys jaws drop that wasnt a hard car to keep hold of when the back end broke with 205/40 17s on the back lol on the 13s with remould 165 rubber it wasnt so easy - proper starfish puckering moments followed by insane grins....

Thanks, may try my hand at going all arty and making something. Got a few ideas I'm keeping up my sleeve for now. Not any time for playing with cars of late. I did find time to purchase these though ;D I really needed a 3rd set of wheels

(drool) nice car btw are u goint tho swap motors in the future ? Thanks, have a bigger pinto waiting in the wings polished slots on a Cortina I believe is what they call Double Plus Win. Cheers, I bought them mostly because they were local and I regret letting a set slip through my hands for peanuts many years ago. I like them a lot though still like the steels more Good to here your 2.3 is progressing well, get that update sorted Would be good to meet up again, are you going to the gathering this year? The 1.6 is going strong and due to it's inherent reliability has been mainly untouched. There's stuff I wish to do it's just the other car and the van have been more needy of late, plus I drained the oil on my bike yesterday and was greeted with some fair sized lumps of unidentifiable of ally always something hey. The tina still brings me and the family joy every time I drive it, it's a great car ;D

Finally painted that grey wing, well sort of. I gave the car some sponge love the other day and noticed some rust coming through the grey so got out some holding paint and then got carried away Flames were penned on already due to my son feeling the need to look the part on our visit to wheels day this year. MOT at the end of the month, best get cracking.

Cheers conrad, cx's may reappear in a more shiny state at some point in the future. Right now it's front bushes that are my main priority. Today progress was made. Firstly, this stuff is the shiz It made all those rusty fastenings held tight since '81 fly out with ease. Well not really of course, it gave me the psychological edge though which ultimately was enough Few bits and bolts removed and engine hoisted via planks and ratchet strap Much faffing later interspersed with fixing a local kids bmx (gotta keep um sweet, gives me protection see ) Daddaaaa Spent the rest of the daylight hours cleaning it up as I might as well paint it whilst it's out because I'm pro like that  Not all plain sailing mind, buying the complete bush set was a good move as they are mostly perished and shot. The main issue was poking my finger through this bit of chassis near the n/s front mount. It's been patched once, maybe not the best job as it's the patch my digit went through. I'll cut it back when I next have car time and see how much chassis needs fabbing, thought it looked ropey when I did the a post that side, now I knows for sure. And so you see, one thing always leads to another. Lucky I'm a pessimist/realist, horror should always be expected when messing with old cars. Should all make good with a little effort, just may be apart for longer than I'd hoped. Lack of light and warmth for drying paint means I've bought the front clip upstairs. No mean feat living in a top floor flat but should make the refurb a more comfy affair ;D Home sweet home
