I bought this on a bit of a whim recently as I'd fancied one for a while, but I haven't been finding time to use it much, and with a holiday coming up I could do with the cash.
It started life as a 2300S but was fitted with the running gear (and leather interior) from a 3500 Vanden Plas by the previous owner. The mechanics all seem to be in good order - the engine pulls well and holds good oil pressure, the autobox was rebuilt in February by a local specialist at a cost of £428 (!) so that works fine as well. Steering, suspension, brakes etc. all seem fine. There is a bit of a whine from one of the driveshafts at 40-50mph - this isn't particularly bad, but there's a new driveshaft in the boot ready to go on.
The body is very solid - I haven't found any rot on it so far, apart from slight bubbling on one of the rear arches, but underneath and sills etc. are all in fine fettle. The paint on the bonnet does need some loving as the lacquer has gone a bit strange (seems to be a common trait with '80s silver paintwork), and the NSF wing is starting to show signs of doing the same. There is also a minor ding in the back panel below the number plate.
The interior is generally pretty good - the leather on the driver's seat could do with a bit of a clean, but it's not excessively worn. Being an SD1, there are a few things that don't work - the rear windows don't open, and the speedo has stopped working (diagnosed as a broken wire from the transducer - I just use the satnav to tell me how fast I'm going). All the lights, wipers etc. work OK.
The car's MoT'd until February next year; tax has run out but I could retax it if need be. Here's some photos:
