I have a thing for cars that go against convention, cars that are treated to all the bells and whistles of racecar-dom despite being odd selections for such an automotive genre. I have dirty thoughts about building a W123 into a caged-up, stripped out, ally-lined, V8 powered track car...just, well, because. Show us your examples of race-prepped cars (be it for a pro class or just for the sake of it) that you really wouldn't think would work. and the inspiration for this thread... Chris

My all-time favourite 'it shouldn't be a racer' car. but that was built to get around aero regulations in WTC (so the rumour goes)

google fails me, as does my still not quite right pc, but there was a (whisper it) DAF coupe at the festival of speed last year, powered by a mid mounted big block oldsmobile v8 - best bit was the reciept the chap had for the brand new daf shell he'd bought direct from the factory to base the race car around!

You'd be thinking about this: EDIT: beat me to it! Though it really has preciously little to do with a DAF really, it was based around March F2 suspension and had an actual gearbox. On topic: the Audi 200 quattro. Roomiest rally car ever?

These have inspired me to do something a little more extreme with my Vitesse; 60's small family saloon, plagued with horror stories of ditch finding handling, turned into circuit racers crammed full of win IMO
