got this emailed to me by a mate.... Just copy/pasted this snippet regarding the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs: "They aim on the 23rd of April for as many classic cars/bikes/lorries/tractors etc etc to be on the road, to excercise the freedoms they have earnt for us. I will be supporting them. They have said to just get vehicles out, even if they are parked on the road, front garden etc. " More here: www.fbhvc.co.uk/events/drive-it-day.htmwww.driveit.swadey.co.uk/

On a sunday?
That's cheating isn't it? At themo sundays for me is mudding in the morning in my 37-year old landie, and then blasting round the countryside in the Bimmer in the afternoon.
Make it midweek... Attempting to drive the landie the 50-odd miles to work in central london would be... er... interesting!!! ;D

Have you got a lot of beardies in your club who aren't interested in seeing some dodgy bird shakin' her thang while you sip a bottle of beer that cost £37?

PAH! "Use Your Classic Day" !!!!! I have to use my vehicles Every Day! This scheme was probably thought up by some Beard clad 'real ale' drinking saddo! who thinks his 1950something blandwagon is a rare peace of national history! And ...why don't they have "use your classic day" in the middle of winter? ...e.g when it's salt on roads and rain or frosty! ;D

i still think it is a good idea. people don't relise how big the classic car scene is, and this is a great chance to show them and earn the whole scene a bit of respect from joe public.

yeah a true 'use your classic day' should be a weekday
carb icing in the morning,
followed by misty windows
rattles, general worrying about it breaking on you into work
scraping stuff off the work carpark speedbumps.
worrying about it getting stolen when your in work due to the prehistoric locks that can be opened by a 5 year old with a lollypop stick
getting it in the ear from carpark security for the patch of oil your cars has left in the carpark
coming out of work more creaks and groans from the direction of the engine bay - listening out for anything iffy, worrying that 'that burning smell' is your car.
pulling over and popping the bonnet just to make sure 'that burning smell' isnt your car
pulling it onto the drive, popping the bonnet and finding something else that needs replacing
thats what is ALL about ;D ;D

To answer Andy... we're not all beardies in the Imp Club... BRING ON THE STRIPPERS - HO YAS!!!I was going to suggest a mass cruise around the M25, bringing it to deadlock. That would be ace... imagine the TV coverage! A huge que at the Dartford bridge full of classic cars. Sadly most people I mentioned this to looked slightly bemused... I use my classic everyday too - however, the idea is to get all those cars out of their garages that normally stay there under a dust-proof blanket (plus our slightly less-perfect cars ) to show that there is still an old car movement and that we aren't just fading away. Its gotta be done... otherwise the suits full of curse word-all won't have any excuses not to tax/legislate old cars off the roads... Do it. Do it. Do it.

Yeah, but as said above it's a Sunday, and it's spring when all the lightweight classic car owners bring their toys out. Who's going to notice?
As said above, it should be midweek, and in winter - my clunkers don't have the luxury of staying at home when "oooh, might rain later, better not take it today".

I admit to having a 'lightweight' approach to my Mazda koop, if that gets rained on I start bricking it.

I was thinking about summat like this with that thread yesterday 'driving to work', what a good idea.
Sadly my older ones are still off the road. Ideally it should be a week day, that would be good, but maybe a Sunday is more realistic for the lightweights in some of the propper 'classic' scenes, along with that, I don't feel like i own a propper 'classic', then if Joe public clocked my MK1, they'd certainly notice its no spring chicken!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

If the weathers good I'll certainly be using this as an excuse to roll the car out onto the drive.
