Then out came the pressure washer to get rid of some of that grime Amazing what difference a good clean can do, even more has fallen off! Plans: Do the bare minimum to fix it enough for the mot and make it a rolling project Slowly replace panels and respray either in red or black. Fit my spare e36 seats upfront Fit a rock and roll bed in the back so it can be used as a camper style thing Lower it a bit, not entirely sure how I want it to look yet Possibly get an lpg conversion Trying to avoid anymore ideas until its actually roadworthy!

Good luck with the rotten rear panels as they're specific to the pick ups, I've been looking for some for a while now with no luck. What part of the country are you in as I've got a locker door spare.
Cheers Andy e

Looks good Paul. Nice project. I think a camper of some sort is high on my list of future projects once I'm out of education.

my my thats a crusty one, good luck with the project lad. ive had my doka on the road for a couple of months now and its the best vehicle ive ever owned, I don't know how I manged without a pickup in my life untill now, mines a 1.6 d so its dog slow(mk2 golf engine, coming soon), yours should be a damn sight more sprightly. get yourself on the www.brickyard.co.uk and www.club80-90.co.uk forums for parts and info. also www.thesamba.com is very usefull for info too. I'm fairly sure theres a lad on ebay breaking a doka at the moment too. might be good for chopping out those o so rare rear quarter panels. if you know a friendly vw commercials dealer, the can also do a nealer networks parts shout for you. vw germany still had some stock not long back. www.volksheaven.co.uk/ is also very usefull too. letshaveabus is the ebay seller with doka parts, worth a chat poss

Cheers for the advice and encouragement Panels wise I'm not that worried, i can make most of them myself anyway as i have the old things as patterns. I have the door, it just need fixing back on! I got the beasty running today! and the engine got a little wash too! it idles and revs a treat however it stalls as soon as you try and pull away, which i cant quite figure out as it revs in neutral fine? If the carb was dirty, surely it wouldnt rev up and down so well in neutral? Could it be a weak spark?

Yay, another DoKa hits RR, we're taking over I've just started looking at the rust on mine...... I feel a lot better about it now I've thought about doing a bed type affair in the back of mine as well, but think I'll try a mini camper fit, and go with a tent for the back! What sort of condition is the bed in? Just stripped mine off and it's mint underneath thank god! As for the poor running, might be the fuel pump (The bakelite push rods snap) or water in the fuel, my old one had the same thing, would rev fine but as soon as I put it under load it would die! I shall be watching the panel repair with interest

I shall get checking those when i am next home from uni (leave friday morning so wont be working on the t25 til novemeber unfortunately). I know the tank and fuel lines were replaced before i got it, and the fuel was all frained out so there shouldnt be any water in there. They had said it had an occasional stalling problem. Fuel pump looks to be a good start! The 'top' floor is rotten, but the lower floor is fine Underneath, this is a really solid machine, its just the panels that are a bit tatty!
