OK managed to get some time in the daylight and with OK weather: Oil leak: corner filed flush, I could see a clean bit of block below where it had been leaking - hopefully fixed! Water leak: Took the thermostat housing top off and found it had a flat on the lower edge where it was cast. I filed it round and cleaned it up all the way around. Also sanded the inside of the hose to ensure a good seal and re-orientated the clamp Fuel smell: Replaced the breather hose, it was very badly split! Easy enough to do. Also: My cheapo IACV was almost right but the valve bit is too small swapped the seal over for good measure. That said it was idling OK anyway. Exercised the wastegate, sometimes it was sticking open so detached the WG actuator and give a good wiggling to free it up. Boot release: The boot was sticking down so I coloured in the pins with marker pen to see where it was catching. Moved the latches and it now opens on the struts without being pulled open now! Seat was repaired by 'Leather Revive' top chap, proper petrol head and he's done a pretty good job too! Rich

I love these cars..... I'm ashamed to admit to shying out of buying one when I had teh chance as I knew I'd never give it the attention they deserve/require.
Fabulous work and excellent ride fella. Very well done.....

Always wanted an Esprit but 6.3 & size 13's not catered for sadly. New dash looks lovely. Gonna be a cracker once finished.

Cheers chaps, there isn't a lot of room inside! I reckon it's got to be close to the Elise for space, except there is more headroom adn the pedal box is bigger... ON THE ELISE! there is no space anywhere.
I now need to fill it back up with coolant and oil see if I've found all the leaks... Oh and push some more electrickery into the battery....

Boss at work has a Stevens shape Turbo. We noticed recently the dizzy cap sits directly below the carbs lol. Bit of a fire hazard I think.

Read through this whole thread last night very good read and you are local too (I am originally from the other side of leyland to preston!) It is good to see someone working on one of these themselves and doing a good job of it!

to be fair about half of the Esprit Owners are owner-maintainers - jsut because of the cost! The parts are generally not too bad but the time involved for jobs is the killer. also finding someone who knows these cars is hard - there are no shortcuts, if something lokks like it might be in the way - it is and will need removing first - and there will be something in the way of that too...
Replacing the clutch master cylinder required the fuseboard out which needed the ABS pump moving....

Not good.
The oterhproblem you get is rusted fuel tanks which doesn't help!
I'm going to squeeze some more electric in it tonight and go out for a blatt tomorrow with some luck.

Sweet ride, love it! I know the guys at Sincaires/Essex Motorsport - i'm sure you've come across them. Always admired the Esprit's when I've been in the workshop

Heard of them but it's a long treck down there!
Electrickery is being pumped in... but the battery was pancaked though...
I even found time to fix a leak that was bodged a while back. OK it's still a bit bodged but it's an improved bodge!

OK it's sill leaking coolant a bit but nothign like it was, jsut need to get it back up on sticks and haev a poke about the water pump. Hopefully it's jsut a pipe clip again, but it could be the water pump again. If it's the damn pump it'll be going back for a warranty repair! It might even jsut be residual water - the level has gone down a bit but that might just be burping it's self
Off to Southport in it tonight - some long, straight, flat (And hopefully dry) dual carriageways - I'll see how we get on...

Clutch is slipping... after a bit of enthusisatic use (It's a supercar!) the clutch now appears to have thrown in the towel. It's not slipping all the time but I think it may have been slipping for a while, the car lacked the oomph in 1st adn 2nd that it had in 3rd as the turbo kicks in.
So new clutch kit is £200 odd and I'll be repalcing the pilot bearing and rear main seal most likely.
Just got to work out if I bother to remove the gearbox or not. You can change the clutch with box just dragged back but I'm not sure you can do the rest like that.
Allegedly you can get the box out without much fuss.... 4-6 hours for a clutch change allegedly.

Exhaust is off, 3 bolts holding a joint together were rusty stalagmites but I managed to snap/cut them off.
Looking through the timing hole the clutch looks awfully thin...!

Clutch ordered... just need to find some time to get the box seperated.
Plan is also to deal with all the annoying little bits: I have a front main seal oil weep, a front water leak (hopefully not the new water pump...) and I'm going to change the rear main seal and spigot bearing while I'm there. Also going to change a gearbox output oil seal.
That *should* deal with all my leaks...
I'm just hoping that my flywheel isn't damaged....

Clutch ordered at 1130, updated at 1200 as being processed, dispatched 1230 - Wanapart Lets hope it fits!
I'm not paying £200+VAT when I can pay £108+VAT but there are no gurantees it'll fit...
I have it on good authority I have ordered the right part but I won't know until it arrives...

Arrived on Tuesday - very prompt service!
Just need time and weather to get it started now...
Woke up this morning half hour before my alarm (6:30) and thought it was Friday - lay there planning my afternoon pulling the gearbox and changing the output seals, but clearly it's Thursday - been grumpy ever since.
