was wondering if anyone had any tips or links on how to do the lace effect patterns on paintwork. I've got a MK£ golf tdi and the paint on the bonnet has had it anyway so thought I'd give it a go with some UV paint but can't find any links on it. I'm guessing its just a case of pulling a net curtain tight over the panel and painting over it but i could be totally wrong something like this

Yes, pretty much. Paint the panel with base coat of your colour choice, lay the lace over the panel, pulling it tight so it sits tight over the panel, but not so much that it distorts the pattern. Spray the 2nd colour choice of base coat over the whole roof and lace, keeping the pressure lower than normal, and keep the gun 90 degrees to the panel to minimise the amount of paint creeping under the material. When the paint is dry, remove the lace, and lacquer. Bob's your real dad.

idid the bonnet of my polo on the campsite at RRG10. came out fairly well. bonnet centre was matt black so the paint over the top was gloss black and gave a fairly subtle finish
