This is where Lady HC & I reside: We have a single driveway (which in itself is fairly lucky in Brighton) but as a dedicated Retro-head (who is about to loose his lockup) that really won't do! On Saturday morning the front garden looked like this: Saturday evening it looked like this: Most of the lawn dug up, a tree & a bush cut down and the big tree cut back quite a bit. Not a bad days work for 2 people I think - thanks to my bud A-Frame for his help ;D Sunday evening it looked like this: Hardcore Senior (my Dad) came over & started re-cementing the walls / edgings back together (cos they're fekked - loads more of that to do) while Big-Al (A-Frame) & I dug up & leveled loads more lawn / mud & made 3 trips to the trip with Dad's trailer. This weekend's 'to do list' includes: - Dig up & level the remaining ground (probably another 2 tip-runs) - Re-cement the rest of the walls (Dad is bringing his mate John to help with this - Move the Campervan & fix the driveway (roots from a now cut down tree have lifted / cracked it up a bit but I can't leave the van in the road for too long cos it's not taxed/tested - fortunately it runs & drives fine ) - Fix the fence - Weed kill everything & lay / peg down black matting (semi-permeable driveway membrane stuff) - Cover the lot in gravel & see how may cars I can cram in! ;D ;D That's quite a bit for 2 days but my lil Bro (InsaneEddie on here) and A-Frame are coming over, as well as Dad & John. Fun fun! Apologies for the very tenuous Retro relevance, just thought I'd share more updates to come!

Thanks guys So, today's updates - fortunately the weather forecast was as accurate as ever; it was supposed to rain heavily all day but it never did (not that it would have stopped us..) In-progress pic: (That's Al & my lil Bro BTW..) All digging now finished (thank fook) & another trailer load to the tip Massive tree stump dig out - not fun! (seriously, I thought Ian (Bro) was gonna disappear in the crater!) Most of the main area matted & graveled Crappy old fence torn down - new fence (that the neighbours put up - result!) to be finished off tomorrow (can't really see this in the pics, it's behind the 'van) Driveway & paths all jetwashed (digging up the lawn made an epic mess!) Left to do tomorrow: - Finish laying membrane & graveling (rest of main area & the boarder around the drive) - Loads of cementing to do on walls & driveway (I think you can just see in the pics what the tree roots have done to the drive ) - Another tip run (sob) - See how many cars I can cram on this be-atch!

Thanks for the kind words chaps & ColonElk (Mint Sauce? WTF?) for popping by to inspect! ;D So, by the end of yesterday things were looking like this (pics taken today cos it was dark when I finished!) All membrane down & graveled (4 cubic meters of gravel!!) Walls & driveway cemented Fence finished 2 more trailer loads to the tip (5 tip-runs now!) I think we can call that pretty much done (just a few tiny final bits left to do) ;D ;D Next up planters (maybe..) and a back gate (don't currently have one - not GR8 for security!)

Nice work, by using gravel you don't fall foul of the new planning regs either regarding frontages and drainage.

Cheers John! I'm out of work at the moment so if you've got anything you want doing.. Lew, there are planning laws about this kinda thing?! Never even considered it to be honest!

Yeah there are new laws regarding hard surfacing in residential property frontages. Its to do with surface water run off into the street. There are also laws regarding discharging water from your property into the street. But these are soooooooo minor and soooooo unenforced they are largely irrelevant (unless applied to new developments). But the more recent laws require all drives with a hard standing over X% to have a soak away built in. It all stems from the fact the surface water drains cannot cope these days in suburbia due to the lack of green stuff soaking up rain Gravel gets thumbs up (as it soaks it up as can be seen under your tap ;D )
