Someone drove up the back of the Dyane recently. No visible damage. All appeared fine. Turns out that since then, it has found communism, and is heading for the left ( ;D for cheesy joke for actual damage) Now the thing is.. I don't know how I'd go about straightening it out, I haven't even figured out where it's bent yet. It can't be massively so because the pull isn't that bad. I'm still driving it and there's no reason why I couldn't put a new MOT on it when it lapses in Jan. Insurance is out of the question, I don't have the details of the person that hit it anymore and it's more hastle than it's worth if I know they are instantly going to tell me it's a cat d writeoff. I'm looking for advise.. would you attach a chain to it and drive in the opposite direction? Sell it on (honestly, explaining to the buyer, obviously), break it for parts? It's separate chassis, and they are readily available, so it's more a case of not being economical to fix properly than not being fixable. Once citroen is gone, Volvo is going back to daily duties and I'm already eying up projects. Silver shadows tickle my fancy at the moment.

Have you measured the wheelbase each side?

Have you measured the wheelbase each side? Matt Only very quickly and not very accurately. I'll do it with a helper because there was very little in it when I did it last time.

do what stealthstylz says above, then decide upon which action to take.
Id be surprised if its that bent. Ive got a 1975 2CV which was hit hard up the rear, wing, quarter etc were just hammered back out the chassis leg had a big long box section applied and was brute forced straight again. Thats cars been through several MOT's since and drives fine.
I doubt there is actually much wrong. shame you arent nearer, id be happy to have a look at it.

As an added thought.
Did it hit the wing/wheel? The suspension arms are easy to bend if they are forced in a way they don't usually have to go. If he just hit the back of the car it cant really have damaged anything else. As you know shocks/springs etc are all mid ships and the front end wouldnt grip enough to bend anything it would just be pushed along forward i guess.
If it is suspension arm, i have spare ones. Yours for post.

Oh and wheelbase. When measuring, make sure the car is evenly weighted each side and on flat ground.
A dyane/2CV whelbase can change, seriously, interconnected leading and trailing arms, the rear wheel will react to what the front wheel is doing.

Ben, are you anywhere near Frome? Give Gary Dicks a bell: 07888 998776 - he knows what he's doing.

Cheers guys. To be honest, looking at the construction of the chassis, I can't see how a bump in the back can do any damage either. It was a straight on bump from the rear that just pushed the car forward a bit.. Stinkwheel, thanks for the generous offer, I don't reckon I'll have to take you up on it, but I'll let you know The problem is I lowered the car on the same day, and so it is just as likely that something is askew from that. Is it possible that it's knocked the tracking out on one side more than t'other, or that it being higher than stock before disguised the characteristics I uncovered?

Personally, Id say its somthing else you have done or pure coincidence... Ive driven shunted cars before and never had one crab. Even my mk2 polo which was hit very hard and pushed the body into the wheel enough to burst the tyre and bend a rim, and even that drove fine after we yanked the dent out with my mates offending golf But none of that is saying yours isnt due to the shunt... Got any pics of said damage?

No real visible damage at all..
I've just looked online, and the car doesn't have adjustable tracking? Ah god, I'll have to have a proper read up and see what I can figure out.

it does have adjustable tracking. How do you think you adjust the steering normally Special sleeve fits on the rack arms and holds the track rod end (although its not really a track rod end) has nus and bolts each end holding it clamped, undo and adjust hey presto. The clamps can be seized silly though, as they don't get touched that often.

I was looking at pictures and skim reading the parts descriptions on the ECAS site in order to scare monger myself ;D I really hope the fix is that simple, and that I can find the love for it again
