Here we go again! The company I work(ed) for has officially gone bust and more than likely taken with it any chance of seeing any of the wages I'm owed, so I need to cash everything in to keep us afloat. I'd certainly rather keep my house than my car!
So, here's my baby - she's a Portugese import W115. The original 2.2 diesel has made way for a five cylinder 2.5 and she now sports a 5 speed 'box too. She rides low on cut springs and sits on chromed Flat 4 Fuchs reps. It's an early 115, which means it has the small rear lights, quaterlight front windows and non-headrest interior.
Make no mistake, this is no show queen! It's my daily driver and would be best described as a bit ratty. Patina and character by the bucketload! Don't worry though, it's only skin deep though - check my thread below to see the amount of new metal thats been glued in recently!
The interior is like your favourite pair of shoes; nicely worn, but cosy and fantastically comfy! The carpets are long gone and have been replaced with coconut matting, which actually matches the brown trim quite nicely! The headlining is a bit scruffy at the rear, where it has come out of the screen rubber and there is a small tear where it comes down the C pillar. There is a Pioneer CD player, with an amp and a sub lurking in the cavernous boot!
She always starts on the button, doesn't smoke and uses no oil. She goes well and brakes straight, doesn't wander and does plenty to the gallon! She'll do over 90, if the roads are smooth enough, but will happily bumble along at 70 on the motorway all day long; bumpy roads require a more relaxed pace though, due to the low ride height.
I've been asked before what faults there are, so here's a pretty realistic summation.
The paintwork is tatty, pretty much all over; it polishes up nicely, but there is crazing from the hot Portuguese sun!
The interior is far from mint! The only functioning gauge on the dash is the fuel one, although a GPS speedo (road angel) is included.
She lets a bit of rain in (but then most 40 year old cars suffer from this sort of reverse-incontinence), it's not a big issue though as there's no carpet to soak it up, so it just drains away.
These are just minor quibbles of classic car ownership though and the pleasure it brings negates them. It has been a joy to run and gets smiles, waves a kind words wherever it goes.
Comes with a few spare bits and bobs, plus a new pair of front tyres which I have just run in, ready to get them striped up by Mr Whitewalls.
Give us a bell if you want some better info.....
Just to be clear on this - the price is £1750 and it won't leave my drive for anything less. You can start higher if you enjoy haggling and who knows; you may get it down to £1750, if you're lucky . The money from this will get swallowed by our overdraft, so it needs to make as big a dent as possible.
I would consider a cheap part ex against this, as selling it will leave me without a motor. Would look at a Mk2 golf gti, audi 80 tdi, volcane td, or small van with particular interest.
Cheers, Joe.
