Tell me about ford transit td engines

Hi could you tell me which ford transit td engine and box are best.Are the banana ones any good.Thanks

yup!

all the 2.5 DI based engines TD or DI are peachy... all reliable if looked after and usually if not!

banana ones lightly more power and torque otherwise basically identical

good on fuel to..

Do you need ecu i think thats what its called for the Banana same with the Di.Thanks

You can run a manual pump without an ECU. The code to look for on the side is 145, it's a Bosch. One other thing, Ford in their infinite wisdom decided not to fit an oil pressure gauge to TDI transits, so if you are retro fitting one it might be something to look at.

The Banana ones are not turbo,80 ps (earlier Mk4) 76 ps (smileys/mk 5) these require nothing but a feed to stop solenoid !
No ECU`s required.

Turbo`s are 85ps 100ps,or rare 115`s (intercooled)
From factory they are all "fly by wire" with ECU & electronically controlled Fuel pump.
Misunderstood,maligned & sometimes unreliable this pump & ECU can be ditched and a Manual Bosch pump fitted with throttle cable (the 145 as Fredtransit says .)

Best power & reliability therefore would be 100ps/115 with pump converted to 145 manual

They all use the MT75 gearbox,2 different gearsets available,close and wide ratio (4th & 5th same on both )
