Stunning work as usual. With the speed you are getting through the jobs and the planned finish date the rest must be really bad (just as bad as the bit you have done!) Looking really good so far and I guess when you have one side done you can sit bback and admire the look before turning it around! Keep it up, cannot wait for the next update as with all your threads John.

Hi,
I have my Mini door bottom to deal with. From what I can see, did you just weld bit by bit(not seam weld)? Then fill in the gap or just weld every 20mm? I have been seam welded everything and each time I do this, panel distort. So, if I do what you are doing, weld every 30mm or so and go back and do the same. Will it not distort panel but seam welded?
It looks good and I wish I had half of your skill. I have now bought a plasma cutter(arc/Tig) which was cheap but money well spent!
I hope what I luck in my skill, I can use tool to cover it!
Cheers Atchi

Hi! Great work Dave.....like always when it comes to "Blech" ......i stuck on the Express....it's a little bit more work than I think at first... Cheers Totti Hi Thorsten, the difference being you can get spares for your Express Stop faffing around with your future daily and get the MK1 Cortina started ;D Stunning work as usual. With the speed you are getting through the jobs and the planned finish date the rest must be really bad (just as bad as the bit you have done!) Keep it up, cannot wait for the next update as with all your threads John. Much appreciated John, i think my plan is still about right, the other side is just at as bad unfortunately so i think two years for the bodywork is about right, especially as we´ll be dragging out the Capri out of the barn soon and that needs sorting too Hi, I have my Mini door bottom to deal with. From what I can see, did you just weld bit by bit(not seam weld)? Then fill in the gap or just weld every 20mm? I have been seam welded everything and each time I do this, panel distort. Cheers Atchi The doorskin is not seam welded as you´ll always have issues with the heat needed to penetrate properly. I just spot welded it every 6 inches, let it cool down and then keep closing the gaps until you get a continual line of spot welds. To give you an idea i spent most of a whole day doing that one weld, just leave yourself plenty of time inbetween each spotweld and you´ll be ok. Hope that helps, Dave

Outstanding workmanship there. That's a pretty big project, but it's gonna be a stunner when you've finished it

Outstanding workmanship there. That's a pretty big project, but it's gonna be a stunner when you've finished it Cheers mate, hope so Before I refit the door I wanted to finish off the drivers side floor. I´d just tacked it into place to make sure that the inner sill was right So I go the welder warmed up and welded the rear half in for good The original drivers seat mounting rails were not rusty but a previous owner had bodged them up pretty badly so instead of fixing them I chopped out my spare out of the donor. Fortunately it´s identical.. and it goes in here next job is the other half Anyone notice what´s missing in the last picture...answers on a postcard to.......... ;D

Thanks Seth, you´re right mate - once i´ve got the floor done on the drivers side i need to fit the middle section of the lefthand chassis leg uhm, I don't have any postcards lying around but my guess would be... rust? Nice work as always Dave, this is going to be an incredible car. Cheers Dean, i´m not too sure about the "incredable" bit mate but at least it won´t be rusty ;D Yesterday involved a bit of this... a bit of welding..... and after hours of grinding, a bit of this to boost the mojo ;D with a bit of luck i´ll get the front jacking point in today and the rest of the chassis leg welded up.

OB-wan. With this thread you have been propelled to the top end of the 'welding jedi' league table that exists only in my head. You are jostling with TonyBMW and those vietnamese guys who do VW campers, for top spot!!! Amazing stuff and very inspiring. I'm gonna buy a set of those cleco things, they look like THE TOOL for doorskin repairs etc.

I was always partial to your special brand of humour ;D ;D Those Cleco clamps are brillaint Richard and well worth the money mate, especially as you are partial to bit of "car rescueing" yourself . The last job on the drivers side floor was to weld in the front jacking point.... the old one was completely nackered as with most of this car.. i´d been able to source a pair of new ones that are made for the Taunus 17M and as the floorpan is the same they fit quite well... i´ll give it a couple more coats of primer over the next couple of weeks and then seal all the welds with Sikaflex. The floor is now finished...... Next job up is the rear left hand corner. If you think the front was bad wait until you see what´s left of the boot
