What the f*** is an "Osi 20 M TS" I here you ask - well OSI (Officine Stampaggi Industriali) was founded in 1960 as a subsidiary of Ghia to build short series of cars such as the Innocenti Spyder and the coupé version of the Fiat 2300, they even did an Anglia special. The car is based on a 1965 Ford Taunus (P5) chassis and running gear. Osi got the ok for a European Mustang in 1965, the prototype made its first appearence at the Geneva Motorshow in 1966 and went into production the following year. Ford shipped the appropriate parts from Cologne to Turin and received completed cars back. The car was slightly longer and wider than the standard Taunus. When the 20m TS went into production, some 800 people worked for OSI and maximum production was 15 cars a day (per hand!!). The OSI design team was headed by chief designer Sergio Sartorelli, the type 34 VW Karmann Ghia designer. If you haven´t heard of them before, don´t worry, neither had I until I came out to Germany. With the company going bust in 1968 and Ford probably busy with the Capri, in the 12 month production run (67-68)only 2200 coupes were made and 1 soft top (which survived and is being restored here in Germany). Enough of the history lesson, if you fancy a more detailed read (in english) visit Amilcars´Osi website in Portugal www.osi20mts.com/index1.htmlWell with the van gone and our Alex´s W123 finished..... I had a space in the garage that needed filling ;D The plan was to build a 1/4 mile Escort 24V Estate... but my mate Michael was offered an Osi and he very kindly let me know. Now these cars don´t come up very often and when they do they´re normally very rusty, full of filler and expensive. And this one was no different, although to be fair it wasn´t too bad pricewise. These are the pics that he sent me, his description ... "bodged", "complete" "dooable" and most importantly "affordable" well I fancied a challenge so I sold the Escort, the Audi Coupe and bought the Osi ;D ;D I never thought i´d be able to afford one so i´m chuffed and will be busy the next couple of years as it´s completely rotten and bodyworkspares havn´t been available for nearly 40 years..... happy days! Watch this space if you like "welding threads" ;D

Wow!!! That is a serious bit of exotica, very nice!!!! Right up my street. Heres a couple I was admiring at the le Mans Classic a couple of years ago: Those sill repairs look interesting. I always find it interesting to see horrible bodges on beautiful cars. Its difficult to imagine something like that getting lashed up at 'Big Tonys £500 respray shop' in order to tart it up for one more years use! Its amazing to think about old maseratis having bits of fridge pigeon-$hit-welded into their sills to keep them going, but I guess it happens, or at least did happen a few years ago.

Pretty car! Front lines remind me a bit of a Jensen-Healey. Regardless of what lurks underneath, that is going to be worth the effort you put in. --Phil

OSI's are nice! I always liked them from the first pic I saw of them. It wasn't untill last years Techno Classica I saw one for real! Great car, and i'm sure your skills can make this OSI awesome! I remember the first time I saw one and went wow!! Looks a bit like my Audi 100 Coupe S...... Thanks for thse pics Richard, not too sure about the wheels in the first one though. I´ve seen a lot of cr@p welding over the years but this one tops the lot (as you will see in later pics) I think these rare cars have the problem that spares are either very expensive or in this case non available and as cars come down in price over the years the "cheap and chearful welding brigade" get busy to keep them on the road. When you think that most of the bodges were done by a Ford maindealer i´m glad I don´t drive a modern one and have to rely on a dealer to keep it on the road oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh......... Never ever heard of these but that red one is stunning. This is going to be another amazing build!!! Ready in time for 2011 gathering? ;-) No chance mate, i´m planning two years for the bodywork and another year for the rest - i´ll be taking a break from the Osi as soon as it´s rollable again as I want to build a MKI Fiesta 24V drag toy for next year ;D Pretty car! Front lines remind me a bit of a Jensen-Healey. Regardless of what lurks underneath, that is going to be worth the effort you put in. --Phil Know what you mean Phil, the front reminds me a bit of an early Triumph 2500 and the back is very GT6 if you get it at the right angle - it´s definately Italian design (and shoddy build quality!) welcome back Dave . i'll be keeping my eye on this one should be good when done Cheers Mark, hope so. Fancy a paint job in a couple of years? ;D Pretty car! Front lines remind me a bit of a Jensen-Healey. Regardless of what lurks underneath, that is going to be worth the effort you put in. --Phil preeeeeeeeety carrrr........ ;D I love raf ;D like a cross between a monteverdi a ghibli an interceptor and dino ish cos of the kamm tail (what do all these have in common lol) [chant]go dave go dave go dave[/chant] I agree with the "cross between" thing, now all I need is an engine to match. Great to have you back OB. Hope you can stick around. Bus looks fantastic finished and I too can't wait to see it doing its job. Merc looks like it was a big project too. And the OSI will be awesome Going for a stock resto or will there be some room for play? Cheers Seth, The Merc turned out to be quite a handful, it only needed four new doors, tailgate & Bonnet, new inner and out front wings, complete new rear end and a garage respray, but it hasn´t missed a beat since September ;D I have to restore it and keep it original otherwise it won´t go through it´s TÜV but i´ll be putting the battery in the boot to make way for a V8 once it´s back on the road Anyone got a Ford V8 (on carbs) and running gear lying around give us a shout please Based on the pics you´ve seen I bought the car on the phone and agreed to collect it on our way to a classic car meet in Lobbach end of July. Once back home I could finally see what i´d let myself in for..... Originally it had a 2,0L V6 but somewhere along the line it got a 2.6 and that´s what will be gong back in (to get it through it´s classic car engineers report) If this would have been any other car I wouldn´t have bothered but you don´t get the chance too often to buy an affordable Osi. I fancied a challenge and my lovely lady likes it too so why not....by the way did I mention it´s even worse than it looks in those pics
