By day I run an Accounts team at a law firm but in my 'spare' time I'm a freelance motoring journo ;D
Oh, and Mr BoddieandDoyle- your BMW place is not too far from me in sunny Basildon. I may have to drop in some time and let you have a look over the M3, it's well-maintained but I think it's a little down on power...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'm currently 4 weeks away from getting my Mechanical Engineering degree (hopefully)... 11 exams to go and then it's mine! I've done alsorts during summers - Computer stuff, car stuff, office stuff.
All I know is that I'm not ready to get stuck in an office, no matter how good the money is.
I want to start up my own classic car sales&repair company - Ireland is crying out for a decent one.

Good call, often wondered that. Architectural Technician, doing CAD draughting, Planning Permission and Building Regulations applications for mainly industrial and commercial new build/extensions. Do a bit of surveying too, which gets me out and about (rural exploring?). Been doing it 20 years now (I'm still 'only' 36), having started the old-fashioned way on a drawing board.
Occasionally do work in the car industry - done three Toyota dealerships (Dingles in Norwich familiar to anyone?), currently working on a Hyundai one, all sorts really down to a refurbed workshop for a guy who works out of his back garden.
One of the Toyota jobs meant I had to visit their HQ down south of London, Epsom is it? Wow, what a place. Nothing much there to do with the old stuff sadly.

Just boring old AutoCAD, though I have dabbled with the model-based Architectural Desktop version. Our schemes are not architectural masterpieces, and we don't do fancy renderings, 3-D views or anything (call someone in if we need that kind of stuff). I work for a firm of Consulting Engineers, and we do a lot of work on historic buildings which would probably interest you. Measured up a few barns, mills and the like myself.

Checkout Monkey at the most Rock n' Roll Co-Op in the country. Would be curse word if the people weren't so great. Hope training to become a fashion photographer in the next couple of years once i've got a bit of money behind me.

Finishing off my degree (in Knowledge Engineering, which sounds more impressive than it actually is) and then I'm off to work in Transport for London. Slightly worried, as when I went for my interview there were lots of people who, when asked why they wanted to work for TfL said 'to try and encourage people out of cars'.
Hmm.

Please Please Please tell me you didn't say that too Just the kind of self-serving, un-original pap that makes my eyes glaze over when I'm doing an interview (Same line of business)

Good fun and they understand my affliction with cars, the car parks full of crazy stuff, tuned reliant robin anyone? Are we talking about the Nissan design place near Bedford presumably? Went there a few years ago with one or two other Datsuns for their 10th anniversary, they gave us a look around but all the interesting stuff was hidden away Oh, vrskodanorman I got something like £1.30/hr in my first job at Tesco, and the paper round 6 days a week earned me a total of £3.50. Still, it funded my magazine buying.
