Me: (but earlier, without those wheels and with more random bits missing/holes). And a variation on a theme, me sis a few years later: Back to modern times, daughter: (one like this) ... and the next one will be born at home (with a bit of luck sometime this weekend).

Probably my Dad's Honda Goldwing, something like this: Don't have a pic of the actual thing, but the above seems to be a close approximation of the first bike-and-sidecar combo my Dad had. Could also have been whatever my Grandad was driving, but I don't know what that was at the time.

I came home in this vehicle in 1980. Back when a baby seat, seatbelts, airbags etc weren't obligatory, just the extreme trepidation and care you invest when driving your newborn home. Front Left by renault9gta, on Flickr Dad still has it. Apparently it was given to me when I passed my degree but deep down it's still my old man's, y'know. --Phil

My dad must have had his Saab 900 at the time, so not a bad start in life. Unless someone says this model doesn't pre-date '86. Sorry dude, the car in the picture has the slopey front, so is a post '87 model! You'd have gone home in a flat-front one roughly this shape: Umm, my daughter was conceived in this: Does that count? And I either went home in a baby blue cav comme ca: or a yellow 'un ca: But did most of my growing up in a red mk1 golf driver: Happy days. ;D

Umm, my daughter was conceived in this: Does that count? Hydro-pneumatic suspension-at least it would be a smooth ride ;-) Always handy being able to get it up ;-)

Well I cant actually remember what car I came home in but the car I remember the longest ago was a red mk3 'scort.I was bought home in either that or a mk5 cortina. Had mostly fords and vauxhalls when I was younger. Ones I can remember in my so far are mk3 escort, nissan bluebird, 2 mk4 escort estates, a mk2 astra belmont, mk2 astra estate. a silver mk2 cavalier 1.8i, mk2 cavalier saloon (in brown ;D which survived 6 feet of water around it - I remember a bus went past and the wave it made lifted the car 4ft off the ground, dried the plugs out and it started and ran fine after that ), nissan primera P10 ( want another one) renault scenic (oh the shame), 1990 mitsubishi spacewagon gen 1 (first car I ever drove when I was 14 - we have a gen 2 now which we've had for the last 3 years), 2001 Hyundai accent (my car now), austin metro, ford fiesta mk2. 1996 toyota carina, 1994 volkswagen passat, 1990 vw polo mk2 coupe, 1995 skoda favorit (actually loved it, would have another one) So yeah Ive been bought up around retro rides really hence why I love them so much. My accent is the only ever car we've had past the year 1998. Sorry for going off topic but its sorta related as thats the cars I can remember from my childhood.

I'm told that my first ever car journey was in a 2 door mark 3 Cortina, in 1973.
My best mate once delivered a baby in a MG Metro. The expectant father was so flustered he smacked the car into a Belfast City Council bin. Bits of bin and Metro all over the road, the police (my mate in this case) arrived just in time. By the time the ambulance arrived, it was all over and done with, baby wrapped up in a hi-vis police jacket.
