whats the worst thing you've run over?

I'm not talking people here folks!
i ran over a pallet once,because the tosser in front of me waited until the last minute to change lanes on a dual carriageway without giving me any warning what was in front of him.locked up and hit it at about 60,totalled the front end of my MK1 astra
(oh and i've hit a Badger) any other near misses or bizzare objects struck?

A rather large goose in a ovlov 240. The goose came off considerably worse as you can imagine.

JUST THIS MORNING I saw a fiat van with a load of 6” diameter plastic sewer pipes on the roofrack, slow down at a crossroads. As he slowed down all the pipes slid forward and came off the roofrack, falling into the road. The timing was just right, so that they fell off just in time for the oncoming car, for which he had slowed down, to drive right through the lot and smash the sh*te out of every single one!!! There was no damage to the car, just a ton of smashed placca pipes in the road. 147 BREAK.

I was driving a brand new unregistered Alfa 156 to a car valeters to get it dewaxed when the truck in front of me lost a large stone, went straight over it, busted the left front tyre and put a bulge in the left rear, boss saw the funny side though.

Nearly flattened a King Charles spaniel Sunday with the Missus's Avensis, Thank God for ABS. little bastrd ran out in front of me, then turned and ran up the road in front of the car...

Roadkill - don't talk to me about that........

We have

- foxes that tread a path that has been trod for years - put a road accross it it's still their path
- Suicidal Munkjacks (small dear that like to graze on roadside verges)
- Badgers (dark colour so hard to spot)
- Full size stags and deers (not hard to spot but bloody hard if you hit one)
- Swans that fly over a bypass on a low approach to the river
- Then there are the "no brain" Pheasants and patridges bred for the shooting season that fly out of hedges like mini scuds
- Smaller winged birds like pigeons etc
- then there is the usual pet type animals with no road sense

The roads round here are roadkill rich

Me I've managed to chalk up in 20 years motoring

8 x pheasants
3 x pigeons and other smaller winged animals (one on a motorbike dislocated my collar bone)
1 x munkjack
1 x full size deer
and a near miss with a badger

I know the thread is not about people but I've managed to run over my own foot......

And 35 years ago I was with me dad in a Ford Cortina and we ran over a butcher meat hanging hook on the A12 - it managed to puncture both front and rear offside tyres and like everyone else we only had one spare!!!

i worked in an abbatoir in the eighties and my boss had an aston lagonda he came in one morning with a smashed to curse word front end covered in claret,we were sure he'd run some poor sod over.Turned out that was a deer,as i remember it caused about 15 grands worth of damage,a lot of money 20 yrs ago!

A cat. On purpose. It must have been hit a few cars ahead of us and was in quite a mess. We stopped to look at it but it was obviously a gonner and not happy at all so we got back in the car and did the decent thing. Pretty hard to do though.

A friend hit a cow at around 90mph. Straight road, big dip, car front comes out of dip, headlights rise up...moooooo! bang. Cow went right over the roof. Any slower apparently and it would have landed on the roof, maybe killing all 4 people in the car. Cows are heavy. Totaled the car and had to pay the farmer about a grand for the cow!!

2 cats (that was the last of their nine lives both times) both at night, they ran right out. One I managed to do right in front of the old lady who's cat is was as well. That pretty much sucked.

4 wild equatic birds kinda like a cross between a duck and a goose, in the same hit. They kinda went da-da-da-da against the front valance with their necks.

Thats about it.

They are scatty animals - my mum & late gran used to breed them. we only have one now, and that can howl for Britain

If the farmer has let his livestock escape onto a road, I don't see why it is that he should have been compensated.... surely he should have been responsible for the damage to the car???

I managed to drive over the legs of an engine crane in a Maserati Ghibli!
Some clown pushed it into my path while I was concentrating on the passenger side bieng close to another car, front wheel went over it but it grounded out on the sill and got stuck......... dented the sill and floor.
Went in early the next day to sort it out before the boss found out, but it had been collected already!
Never mind, the owner was a nasty old to$$er anyway

Maybe like a chap I know in Ireland - the cow wasn't in the road - he went through the fence/wall & hit the poor unsuspecting cow standing the otherside in the feild ......... is kind of funny when he recalls the story though

I nearly ran over Peter Ebdon the snooker player - I think he used to practice in the working men's club that I pass on the way to work & its right on a dodgy junction which he was trying to cross clutching his que ;D

Where poss i try avoid killing, So where do i start? Once ranover a telegraph pole but it won, rust testing on a Mk1 Festa I call it, oh and a wall in the same car! LOL

A squirrel once in my old micra. I'm conviced i didnt kill it as its a light car and it wasn't there shortly after, must of been like being pi$$ed.

Oh and a small dog ran accross the road while i was doing about 40 on a DC on my wee motorbike, Totally sh@ my self! just heard a wimper and skimmed it!

Generally on empty dark motorwatys and roads I tend to switch up the lights to full beam and/or sit in the middle line to give the buggers some warning.

I nearly put a mate though the windscreen of my Capri jammmig the brakes on to avoid hitting a rabbit. He was not amused. I think I broke his nose.

As for the cow incident - I tink the 90 MPH it of it mighht count against the "innocent" motorist if it came to court...

Years ago my Dad was driving his shiny new Mini Clubman estate down a country lane when a horse jumped over the hedge and landed on his bonnet.
The Mini survived, the horse didn`t ...

I hit a seagull in the Mini a few years ago, I was tearing down the M5 doing 90+ when there was a thud on the passenger side of the screen. I didn`t take any notice until the wife started screaming - the seagull had smashed in the corner of the screen covering the wife in bits of blood and feathers.
It did look impressive driving across town to the garage though

I managed to run over an exhaust box once, 4 up in a lowered Fiesta. It took mine clean off so we had to drive to the pub with a Peco straight through system inside the car......it was jolly noisy I can tell you

I've never hit a larger animal, which is nice, since I like animals. Animals are cool, just like old cars.

I've had a couple of life-passing-in-front-of-my-eyes -experinces on a motorbike though. One involved me going between a moose couple at a "pretty high speed". One of them was just leaving the road and the other was just entering the road. Talking about being in the right place at the right time.. I've also had small birds and bumble-bees hitting ME on a bike. Blood and feathers all over the visor. Having a bumble-bee between the eyes even at fairly low speeds reminds me of playing paintball during winter when them pellets froze..

I've never hit any livestock or anything... I was once tanking along the M5 with my bro in the Merc and saw a couple of artics moving into the fast lane ahead. We thought that a bit odd but carried on in the middle lane... until we saw the debris of a crash all over our lane, and one of the drivers trying to salvage his bumper and lights and such. By then it was too late and we couldn't change lanes as they were full. The Merc turned the bumper and stuff into shrapnel. It was a bit daft of me on hindsight but never got a puncture / damage from all the broken glass and plastic.
The bloke wasn't too happy mind ;D

Pheasants & muntjacks are the main enemy 'bout my parts.
I once got about 7 pheasants in one hit in a fiesta van. ;D
(obv. i piked the not-too-mangled ones to ale-scoffers down the local tavern!)

Most comedic incident involved a cat and a Citroen BX being driven with the suspension in the 'down' setting. Messy.

I narrowly missed having a nasty one with a full-size deer a few months back. Lets just say I was travelling at 'some pace' up the A1 at 5am when the fugger legged straight across in front of me.
