Need information on a nova ......

Hi all,

was on ebay and came across this :

was just wondering about the model really .....

from what i think its a mark2 car but only mark1s where sr as mark2s where upgraded to sri ?

just hoping to get info on what they worth and how many made etc as hoping to get one

hmm, I actually think it is a mark 3, judging by the build year, complete plastic front bumper, and wings.

also the boot says it's a 1.4, and the engine bay shows a monopoint injection.... that wasn't an option for atleat the mark 1, and I doub't if it was sold alot (if even possible) of a mark 2.

just for info:
mark 1: grill and front bumper are 1 piece


mark 2: note the difference in grill from a mark 1, grill and bumper are 2 seperate pieces


mark 3: note the all plastic bumper, and that the front fenders keep goiing till under the head lights

they did make a 1.4sr in the mk2 nova. only moved to the sri i think in 92 when it needed to have cat tests. but that is a carbed one by the look of it

That heap has appeared on evilbay a couple of times now. Still can't fathom how people really expect others to believe a car is their 'pride an joy innit' if they leave it to rot in their garden for a couple of years and strip bits off it....

its a gen SR 1.4 injection. or a very good rep
mk2. what is said above isnt strictly true, the mk2 described above is a mk1.5
you can tell from the wings around the headlights.

its a complete rust bucket.

the door is shot - and he says they are cheap and easy, another one will cost 40-50 quid, or 80-90 for a new GM door.

the wings look knackered - but are easy to find
the slam panel where it joins the wings are gone big time. you can buy a whole replacement front panel and its not a big job if you can weld.

the inner wings look gone and replacement panels are like gold dust.

IMO for that price its massilvy over priced. your paying for the SR'ness. you can pick up plenty of other models mk1 or mk2 for that money.

get over onto pngclub and there are loads for sale.

just don't buy this one!

It's too far gone to be economically viable to put back on the road (though it'd be great if someone did) so it's only worth the sum of it's parts plus what ever it'll make over the bridge. Which as sure as hell isn't £600 or even close to it. If you can see that much rust on a Nova AND it's parked on grass like that then you're going to be in for some nasty surprises when you examine the things not visible in the pictures..
Novas are ace cars, I'd have another in a heartbeat. But not that one.

I reckon for what it'd cost to buy that and put that back on the road alone you'd get a damned nice 3 door hatch with a C20XE or similar engine ready to use.

and its only 450 because its an SR,

buy the one which is on here atm, 350 and looks tidy as hell, base model IIRC.

Totally agree with BMW156. It's a shed, sorry. Over the last year I've spent a LOT of money on sorting what looked to be a reasonably clean, garaged Nova. I only did it because we've had the car for years and years.

The inner wings are the biggest problem here. They WILL have gone through to the chassis legs which means that the whole front end is structually unsafe.

Original GM panels are also like gold dust now as the company that pressed the Nova panels went out of business in 2006. I managed to snag a couple through pure luck.

I would also be concerned that it is supposed to be a 1.4 but there's a 1.6 engine in there.

As a final note, if water is leaking in where they say it could well be after years of a leaking screen that in some extreme cases can rot the firewall and metalwork behind the dash. This will be very hidden. There's someone over on VODC that had to scrap a really nice GTE because of this. It looked really clean and only came to light when the dash came out for a job. This is very likely to be the same.

You can still get pattern parts (HERE), and even cut out of second hand cars. I haven't seen a Nova in a scrappy for years though.

You can get cheap, genuine panels from HERE. Though I heard wings go for 100 quid second hand on ebay?!

SR's came with Weber 40 carbs. They're quite rare, but that looks like a lot of work, and I'd rather have a 1.2 or something.

so it ad TWIN 40s on it so it as a lecy fuel pump on it and a pressure reg still ? sure the 3 bolt air filter thingy was a peirberg carb ..i think that is wat came on the late sorta face lift novas the earlyer ones ad a SINGLE twin coke weber as standard ..it looks like a standard 1400 with an SR badge on the boot?

not very good on details with novas (yet) as own a lupo but hoping to have a nova in future as a project car

not goin to be that one on ebay that was just an example of the model type I'm interested in ....

I'm hopefully getting one from a family member which holds sentimental value, and probably lots and lots of problems

Have you read the garbage associated with the listing?

All the things he says are cheep are not.
Doors inner wings/wings and general body panels are like hens teeth,plus the inner wing work is replacing the front chassis legs............

don't think for one minute this is a beginner project there is allot of work involved just getting this thing solid.

Nice car and well worth it if you can chew what you will bite off!!!!

You can still get a GTE or a GSi in large numbers, I don't see why an SR should be any more valued tbh. If you don't mind removing all the wibblepoo and fluorescent paint jobs on the GTE/GSi which it will most definitely have, that's a better proposition me thinks.

Beware of 'immaculate' examples. I nearly swapped for one that had rather bad rear arches and rear panel - I found a previous owner who gave me a bit of history. There's still clean ones out there.

(different grill styles) I had no idea! I wanted to change the grille and thought id just bought the most awkward one around lol

this is wrong.

the only nova to come with webers are the sports (only 500ish made) and they had a special irmchser air box. ( I have a set for sale!)
the nova carbs wernt just any weber 40's they have a special vacuum take off and have certain numbers on them, cant remember what they are atm.

the mk1's were carbs and mk2's were injection.
the mk1 1.0 was a pushrod engine
my 1.2 (OHC) mk1 had a pieberg carb.
the 1.3 SR have a good carb on and is worth alot of money.

the mk2 in the auction would of been injection... because it needed a CAT for emmisions etc.

and early wings wthout indicator holes can reach as much as a ton. as they are rare.
