I'm brewing an idea. A friend has a rust free LHD TR7 sitting in storage that he keeps on meaning to sell. He's never had it on the road, or even UK registered, and imported it from USA maybe 10 years ago !
Due to my left leg problem I have difficulty getting into the left side of a car so now only drive RHD. I also fancy a convertible (my Austin Sprite is a little too small).
The idea, therefore, is look into converting a TR7 from LHD to RHD and also making into a convertible at same time. This has been done many times before (but cann't find any links to peoples experiences) so has anyone here done either of the conversions and want to comment on potential pitfalls ?
Thanks.
Paul H

I suspect it would be cheaper to simply buy a RHD UK TR7...there's plenty about.

^^^ What he said ^^^ TR7's don't command the premium of other TR's. A good FHC canbe had for around a grand and a good DHC for around double that.

I suspect it would be cheaper to simply buy a RHD UK TR7...there's plenty about. As I said 100% rust free from a US dry state that has been in storage for maybe 10 years so not really a comparison for a RHD UK market vehicle that might have seen 30 winters Paul H

don't forget biva if you chop the top off I THINK one would be required anyway with being a US model / import hence would do the conversions so "two birds with one stone". No point in having an inspection of a LHD, registering then converting and having another inspection. Paul H

Paul H or, you could just buy this one owner, 30k, rust free TR7 drop head and spend the money you save on a Rover V8 which will drop straight in ;D

Currently driving a 1972 BMW 1602 as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

That "rust free" example looks like it has a rusty front wheel arch to me.

I remember looking at TR7's when first introduced and never like the hard top roof but the convertible is "just right". Even the light metalic green suits it At the moment everything is on hold until doctors appointment in new year. If bad new then I might splash out on a "dream" car for a while (as they say you cann't take it with you !) but if good or middling news then the TR7 might still be an option. Paul H
