Cant remember the make or model of the car and was hoping someone could help out.
All i can remember is that its a small coupe but the boot lifts up and the small metal roof slides backwards into the boot lid, then the boot goes back down (badly described).
I also seem to remember that it never seems to work and is very costly to repair
So any ideas (small honda/toyota i think)

Peugeot 206CC ?
There was a 1930 Peugeot which did the same.
I believe there was a Nissan Micra which did the same thing

Mid 90s i think, but its not like the pug 206 or the merc slk, its like a small coupe, and the only bit that slides backwards is a sort of targa roof panel (square bit of metal).

Thank you sir, thats exactly the one, and a great way of making the whole removal process way too complicated and costly to fix, but also way more cool that a SLK ;D

Honda CRX Del-sol. Great little cars. Vtec + folding roof = cool. I'm sure some didnt have electric roofs though, you had to get out and take it off yourself all old-fashioned like... A local car dealer had one earlier in the year with stupid low mileage (about 40k if I remember) for a Kreg and was absolutely immaculate and let it go for less than ÂŁ2000. Seemed a bargain to me.

That's absolutely crackers. Can the rising boot lid part be adapted to house machine guns/rocket launchers?

Small correction - the del sol is a mk3 CRX. Mk1 was an angular coupe, replaced in '87 by the Mk2 (there's a nice one in the classifieds), and then the del sol came along in 93 ish.

Wow, I honestly never knew the del sol came with this feature. I'd seen it a couple of times on show cars but thought it was a custom job. And yeah it does look expensive.
