My girlfriend has decided that she wants a K11 Micra and I just wondered if there were any faults that I should look out for?
Also she would prefer PAS was this an option on them.

the main thing to watch out for is rust on the sills, typical nissan problem. Listen for noisy timing chains as well.
PAS was standard on some models but not many but was an option on most of them so it is possible to get one with PAS.

hmm, i have a K11 owned it since it was 6 months old, done just over 60k, had to replace the original battery this year and the original middle and back box, most i've ever spent on it :S anyhow pas is standard on all of em from about 1999, no rust on mine, but then i did waxoyl it and ive changed the oil & filter (semi syn) every year and my chain doesn't rattle

www.micra.org.ukAs mentioned, the rear of the sills is a regular as is the front crossmember, this can be absolutely shocking on non pas cars because its not always an mot fail. My mum in law has a later non pas which has lighter steering than mine so it might have a slightly lower geared rack, it definately doesn't need pas, get her to try one. Timing chains do rattle but the engines can go on for ages, and its not like a replacement will be hard to find or expensive. Lots have melted fuse boxes where the contacts corrode and the resistance makes them over heat. Blower motor cards melt too leaving you with just full power, these are stupid expensive from nissan. Bar the rust theres not a lot really, its a nineties nissan after all.

Mrs Trigger had a P reg 1.3 GX for a while, It was a cracking little car really, It didn't have power steering but that wasn't really an issue as the steerings light anyway, It was very quick as well, Quicker then my Escort 1.6 zetec at the time.
As Hardtop said, Power Steering was standard on the later models anyway, as was Air Con on many of them, Especally on the special editions and later Tempest models.
Look out for ex-rental and courtesy car as they would have been ragged and abused and rust is now a issue for them also, Other then that I'd recommend then.
I also remember when I was selling car parts that a pucker ADL bluepoint clutch was only £30+vat for one as well!
