After hunting for many months now for a cheap Coupe Genesis. I have one. A note on a windscreen payed off in the end with a Polo in my home town of Eastbourne. So now I have project Genesis. I have a Genesis Coupe 1.0 4 speed in burgandy(indian red offical I think) I payed a grand sum of £240 for her. 5 months tax no mot. Failed on emissions and rear brake imbalance. Now I reckon I can fix these myself. Not 100% sure what to do about the emisssions so any advice welcomed. The rear brakes I can do no problems. Other faults include : looks like petrol gauge may not be working and temp gauge not working. Bottom of drivers door rotten. Drivers seat not folding. Good points. petrol tank has been replaced along with the head gasket and cambelt ( I have some hefty garage bills for these from the previous owners) Heater works drives like a little go cart ( my daily car is a passat saloon 20v sport) oddly has a tow bar. My little coupe is my shoe string project coupe so any advice or cheap/free bits are very welcome. I am so glad to have a MK3 coupe again must get myself a club polo sticker. Marcus.

Nice little car this, I had one of these in red for my first car, didnt let me down once in the 6 years I had it. I presume you already know that it has a limited edition interior, GT/G40 steering wheel and a folding metal sunroof too ? Looks like this one is in good nick, make sure you look after it, there isnt many left now

Cleaned it twice today proper dirty. Gave it a hoover.Found some useable wiper blades in the garage, stuck them on. Glove box was not shutting so fixed hinge, all good . Sprayed some wd40 on the drivers side window winder internals, bit smoother now. Took off passenger side mirror and decided its beyond fixing so need a replacement. Fitted a sterio, didnt work . Then did some petrol filler cleaning. The went looking for some shiny inserts for my door handles but I must have used them on a previous car, so anyone have any spare? Then it rained and rained so could not finish off the flap or polish the coupe. Also yeah my last coupe was almost exactly the same as this car, the only difference being it had the 1300 5 speed engine, but this was the only cheap indian red one I had seen in months so I could not pass it up. I like the Genesis the most. It has a really nice interior.

'Spose I ought to stick my oar in seeing as it's a Polo! ;D Indian red is a lovely colour. The Genesis model is a funny old thing really, probably the best trimmed and spec'd of all the mk3's yet it is based on the most basic model of all, the Fox. For this reason they were available with the fairly puny 1 litre engine/4 speed 'box (like this one), didn't even have a glovebox lid or cigar lighter, yet have the tinted windows, sliding steel sunroof, remote mirrors, specific cloth interior, rev counter, digital clock etc etc. The Genesis would of been much better had it been based on the 1.3 CL 5 speed model and had a set of alloys to complete the package. Rear brakes are a pretty easy and cheap fix. Replace the shoes and wheel cylinders as a matter of course. "Adjusting" the automatic adjuster wedges can be fiddly but can really reduce pedal travel. Change the brake fluid and check the condition of the flexi hoses too - these are prone to rusting around the connections. The emissions problem could be the blue temperature sender or possibly the Lambda sensor. The temperature guage is controlled by the black sensor (directly next to the blue temp. sensor) on the thermostat housing assembly. However, the fact that the fuel gauge doesn't work either means it might be a problem with the wiring loom? If you want to get another drivers door and passenger mirror it might be worth trying on Polo3.co.uk as well as Club Polo. I always say it to new owners of these, but oik the battery out, remove all the debri and give the battery tray a good clean. CHECK FOR RUST!! They rust here for fun, it can cause all sorts of problems if left. Good luck mate. Richard.

I`ve recently removed my rubbing strips, They come off in 2 pieces, The outside shaped part of the strip unclips leaving another piece double sided taped to the door, I removed this bit by using a heatgun and peeling it off very carefully,
Cheers Adrian
Ps Theres a " How To Guide" on how to fix your Floppy Heater vents on Polo3.co.uk ;D
