All car manufacturers do it. Parts bin special cars and such. GM being one of the biggest, I'm wondering how much stuff from Chevy parts bin can be interchanges with euro stuff (Vauxhall etc).
The main reason I ask is that i'm looking for an aftermarket boss adapter for a steering wheel. Does anyone know if the splines and shat dia on a gen 3 Camaro are the same as any European cars? That way I could save a fortune importing a boss from the states by buying one for a European spec car that fits.
Could even see this thread become a handy reference for useful part sharing that could help with folk projects and whatnot.
Cheers in advance folks!

I don't think you'd save an awful lot really shipping on something that size wouldnt be a lot (£15 mebee) and several people keep them in stock in the uk anyway, as chev steering columns are one of the most popular hotrod steering columns thanks to their neat design and easy height adjustment..

GMC is a brand of truck. It's unlikely any parts off them will fit a Vauxhall...
As for Chevy or anything like that - nothing retro. Some of the J car and similar stuff may fit or could be adapted.
As for the boss, unlikely.

Ah, perhaps not GMC but GM then.
So does anyone know the actualy tech specs then? surely there cant be that many different spline designs in use in the auto industry...
10mpg, that would be great if you could.

Well an internet trawl reveals that apparently GM use 5/8 diameter 36 spline on all columns, be it truck, car and van.
Now theoretically, if any other manufacturer uses this configuration, a boss from another car should fit? (Granted spline length is still a variable, but i can always turn the boss down if its too long or pack with washers if too short...)

You could look up the correct boss on Summit racing's website. They have an application check that lists all the other cars that boss can be used for.

AFAIK - also beware that the boss differs for tilt and non-tilt columns, and also adjustable columns are different again.

We have had discussions about 3rd gen camaro steering bosses on here before. I'm pretty sure someone on here had a link to someone in the UK who sells Grant steering bosses for them. I've got one on mine, and its pretty curse word. The horn push button sprang off and landed in my lap not long ago.

It was me who asked. I ended up getting Norm (Team Blitz) to ship me one from the US of A.
Other than the fact that the part numbers were different and some just say "not tilt or adjustable column" in the application I dunno.

Hmm, I think I might just fabricate one up using the old wheel spline.

You could always ask Mota-Lita. They've got a shedfull of info on spline patterns etc.
