Does it have the horrible on the floor by the door handbrake? I quite liked that It has a nice design feature where the handle drops back down after you apply it so you don't get a trouser leg full of handbrake lever when you get out (as happens on my LT)

I have an idea. PS is going to need help with this car. I really don't want to see any more slagging off and snidey comments from anyone, and it is obvious that there is a lot of want to see the car finished. SO I'm going to make an area-52 style offer to anyone who wants to help (*assuming PS is in agreement - it is his car not mine). I've mentioned using my place as a northern RR base before, the welding day was good fun and I regularly have qwerty and autofive helping fix their cars here anyway, it could be a laugh. Plus, the southern boys have that falcon to play with. Let's meet their mettle and fix some metal Deadline:RRG11 Well that really does sound like a good idea, after all, why should the southern lot have all the fun ;D

^ March sometime... I get the feeling the back quarters weren't bad enough to fail, and nothing else is in a prescribed area.
Found some chevvy pattern (5 on 5) 14x7 turbovec style alloys at the garage this afternoon ;D

Cool, at least you can check the reliability of it for a month. It doesn't look like a huge job to get it sorted glad it's gonna be saved.

Its amazing, everyone just stops in the street and starts talking about it. Within a space of 20 minutes I had 3 different people come up to me. A very clued up road sweep knew quite a bit about these cars and he has a classic Matchless Best one was the Neighbour who commented on how he used to have a few of these - except he thought it was a mk5 cortina estate

If the turbovecs are 5 on 5 they are not Chevy/ Holden fit. They are Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Rover fit.
If they are 5 on 5" then I can give them a loving home.

Can I ask, do you know if the Chevy 307 conversion is straight forward, and what is the manual box like (worth sourcing?) 350 SBC + TH400 auto would drop in but to be honest I wouldn't bother;) just fix up it and enjoy as it is. By the way sliding door glass to door seals are know as 'door belts' they're on the rare spares site or I was going to check out Woolies or teh scrap yards for a match. Giles

was thinking more of the future, in case the engine or box go seriously wrong. so it seems the 'only' option will be a 350 and TH400

the box is a regular GM TH400 on those anyway isn't it? TH400 always seems a heavy box to put behind a small block in what is only a "senior compact" body anyway.
I dunno what you have against the 308 Holden motor. Its probably healthier than most of the 350s out there which are tired, low compression ex-van motors (regardless of everyone selling one telling you its out of a Corvette).
308 Holden lump is the "correct" engine for the car, and its an unusual thing to see over here. 350 Chevy it a bit of a belly button choice when you already have a motor which has some good tuning parts fitted to it as well.
Your ride, but I think it would be a shame to lose the 308.

later heads do fit on older blocks, guys over here do that swap as a way of bypassing certain state registration rules. happy to get you bits and pieces (ie a thermostat) from local parts place and send them to you if you want. Rare Spares will have just about everything you need but they are exxy and slow. Other places like Bursons are quicker and half the price. the gauge problem is probably due to you having a different sender to what the gauge needs. Had the same thing with a mate's ute. 5 dollar part = happy days... make a parts list, send me a PM. in other non related news, a now deceased neighbour was the "colours" man for Holden during the 70's, you can thank him for the bronze exterior colours and black interior. Handling, braking and steering will always be vague on this thing due to inbuilt shithouse suspension design. Basically US GM insisted on GM Australia making their cars understeering wafty barges. You can make it better, but don't expect it to be a fine tuned drivers car like you get in Europe. They were made for covering long distances with minimal fuss. Enjoy it!

Nice one. I was very tempted by this one. part of me *still* wishes I'd bought it even after reading this LOL. I would get some muscular stance on it, maybe wider steels, maybe just on the rear, retain the hub caps, and then sort that body out before it falls apart around you, and paint it a nice colour. Black is a nice colour but on estate cars it looks like you are a poor funeral director. Me too, i even wrote a PM with an offer in it but didn't click 'send' Torque Thrust D's and baby blue would be how I'd roll it!

Just caught up with this! Quality adventure guys, and fantastic write-up SOC. Nice purchase PandaSelecta! Great to see you guys might all be getting on board and getting this sorted. Always good to have a long term plan, and a vision for the car, but also i'd recommend a short term job list to 'stop the rot' and get the car on the road to a shiney long term future. Sounds like you're getting there, though I don't envy the chap taking on that roof! This made me smile lots tho I'll put the engine/gearbox/diff question into perspective for you. You have a blank sheet of paper to make a 70's muscle car. The tunnel should be big enough (if not, find a bigger hammer ) for any box. The structure of the front end is a pair of rails that have a compact IFS setup attached. None of the sheetmetal is there to do anything other than hold up the lights and close the lid. And given there's a racing series for the HQs, there's a wealth of knowledge about making the darned things handle!
