I was watching M&M last night, when the British rally cross championship came on.amazing! i I never knew these things had so much power.there were Astra's and Peugeot's with up to 650 HP are these things converted rally cars? i know the engines can't be the same as i think most of these are around 300 brake. They even had a Audi tt and a Lotus Exige competing. surprise of the program for me though was a mentally fast Nova with a 2.4 lump blew away all the other late stuff in the super final.one of the star turns was a 16 yo in a focus, his car control was incredible, wouldn't bet against seeing him in a rally car in the near future ;D even race things like this!

there used to be a pretty stock looking astra GTE, apart from the side pipe that made lots and LOTS of flames! It used to beat all the 6R4's rs200's the lot

I think you will find Daz that the Rallycross cars you refered to were built solely for Rallycross and nothing else. I went to a few meets back in the 80s at Brands Hatch and the power of those cars were frightening. There was an Escort 4wd that could hit 60 in under 3 seconds, an RS200 which got totalled and a whole manner of other machinery. Most Rallycross drivers didnt have factory support and had to rely on ingenuity to create their machines. I mean, who would have thought that, back in the 70s, a VDub Beetle could seriously compete in Rallycross at the highest level for F***s sake!!! Far more enjoyable than Rallying, at least you are racing other cars and not the effing clock..................................

when i was watching it ,i thought they looked quite low tech. But I've been browsing a few web sites, these cars seem to be built on a serious budget, the program said it was one of the fastest growing areas of motor sport.Just hope that doesn't mean the usual-amateurs being priced out,as i find it fascinating to watch especially some of the less high tech machines

Yeah but its all different classes dazmax. Stock hatch is growing really fast as its as low-tech as it can get and therefore cheap.

Havent watched any rallycross live for years. Used to go to Croft before it became a proper circuit again. There used to be quite a variety of cars and different levels going from cheap clubman cars from 1600 sunbeams and the like upto the professionals RS200`s and 6R4`s all on the same billing but in different races. Its always been pretty high tec in the British and European championships I believe

The 16yr old is Andrew Jordan His dad is Eurotech driver Mike who raced in British GTs and now BTCC in a Honda Integra, clever lad with lots of potential, he was looking at circuit racing but didn't like it as much as RallyX
