Ok, I'm selling my fiat 126 [shameless plug!!] just had a guy txt me saying he will come tonight and pick it up, never asked any questions, just my postcode & a time 2 things sprang to mind : 1: he is going to come over just now while I'm at work and highab it off the drive [its in a garage!! so thats ok] 2: he's going to take it round the track [season starts in 2-3 weeks] Like posts before about such things, i don't want this to get locked and turn into a Banger racing is bad and everytime a retro dies a bunny rabbit explodes, as long as there has been cars this has happened, and most of the racers do run retro's or at least keep them on the road in garages etc and also selling parts on Anyway, to the point of my thread, The 126, my 126, has had many hours spend welding in new panels, sourcing parts such as bumpers etc, and I'm not sure i really want to see my car die that death [chances are I'm going to be there that night anyway!!] Ive done it myself, so what do i do?? anyway, some photos: moominek.jpg Remember, Banger racing isnt bad, just a fact of life ;D

I don't really know about the different classes of Banger racing but surely Bangering a tiny italian car is suicidal!

He probably said he will have it as the Fiat 126 has shot up in price in recent years, and £500 is a bargain even if it turned out to need alot of work.

Well, if you want a say in what happens to the car in the future, don't sell it! The person that comes to buy it from you can do what they like - polish it, drive it, smash it to bits on the oval... I've seen someone race an Austin A30, which I thought was brave / mad. A Fiat 126 would be totally certifiably insane!

Not really sure what you're asking. If you've agreed to sell it to him, then you sell it to him, right? This hits the nail on the head: if you want a say in what happens to the car in the future, don't sell it!

I say this every year but I really would like to go and see some banger racing...especially as I live relatively close to Arena Essex. Maybe we should have an RR meet up to watch some?

look at the bumpers on that wolsely! Or the rear armco looking bumper on the vanguard.... Thought the main argument for classic bangers was that they took all the usable bits off

You could ask him whether he's going to race it. But to be honest, it's a case of how badly do you need the cash? Besides, he could just feed you some bull and off he trots. "Their" money is as good as anyone else's, be a shame to see it go that way. But sometimes it's only the racers that are prepared to put up the cash and fair play to them.
I've probably mentioned it before (I have a habit of repeating myself, sorry), but a guy I met raced an old Rolls hearse at Wimbledon one night after sitting on it for a few months trying to sell it off to some of the Owners club guys (the type that talk in chassis numbers, but don't know what a spanner looks like...). No-one wanted it, it got raced. Last time I saw him, he was nailed to a cross somewhere with a Spirity of Ecstacy where it shouldn't have been...

If I lived close to Arena Essex I'd be there every time it was on. We don't get "proper" Banger racing at my local track in the NE anymore, just a watered down semi-contact formula and proper bangers once a year. And to the original poster I doubt a £500 Fiat would be used for banger racing, sometimes tracks do special events like "Metro bangers" or "Fiesta bangers" but no one would spend good money on one.

I used ti run bangers at Arena Essex, gave up when they tarmaced it, it took all the fun out and got more dangerous as speeds went up.
Are 126's really worth money these days? me dads got a clean 126 Bis buried under aload of tat in his garage he bought about ten years ago to tow behind a camper van until he discovered it was dubious legally.

Hmmm I keep meaning to go but the Prices put me off. £12 seems a tad expensive. I could got to Croft and watch Autocross for £15!

Personally I find everyhting at Croft boring compared to Stock Car racing. Whenever I go to Croft I spend more time walking around the pits looking at the cars than I do watching the racing. The best part about stock car racing is the best drivers starting at the back and having to overtake through the grid - the F2 racing at Barford is always epic, its a small track and lots of the top drivers race there.

Loads of travellers/travellers in norfolk, so we get "proper" banger racing almost every month
Mind you, you do tend to feel like you're going to get mugged in the stands...

Great Yarmouth is the poshest stock car track I've ever been to, apart from Winbledon in London. It has buildings made of bricks and your not aloud in the pits.
