Right I'm looking to get a different car, I'm currently selling my mk2 polo and have a lot of interest so it may be gone quite quick. So this now leaves me with a dilema of what i should get for £1000.
This is what i want from a car: Would like it to be nippy ish Good looking car Cheapish to insure Goodish on the petrol/diesel finds Hatchback/ coupe or saloon. No soft tops.
What would you guys suggest? Ive been racking my brains out trying to work out what to get, whats good for the money etc.

Any preference for age/brand/nation of origin? Will it be a daily or a fun 'toy' car? How old are you (something that's cheap for a 45 year old to insure won't be cheap for a 19 year old to insure)?
There are a lot of £1k cars out there - help us by narrowing it down a bit.

ahh yes sorry. I'm 22 but insurance isnt too bad for me. I had a scirocco and have been thinking of getting another but want to get an idea of what else is good for the money, I'm looking for around mid 80's onwards. It will be a daily/fun toy, somehting that is going to put a smile on my face when driving.

Honda CRX, maybe? Early MX-5 and a hardtop? BMW e30 318is or 325i (again if you can find a solid one in budget)? I'm sure someone else will be along with some suggestions shortly.

I ride bmx so would need something that i can fit a roof or boot rack on, if there isnt sufficent room inside. The misses don't like bmw's so i don't think that would be on the cards

OIC - that does rule out the MX5 and the BMW.
Rover 220GSi/GTi? Supposedly fun to drive, reasonably spacious with a practical hatchback, and the one that my parents had was very reliable - but that was about 10 years ago...

I'm sure there was a website/blog that specialized in what cars u can get for sub 1k. have a quick search of this site.
toyots celica (gen 6's look quite smart and the ST's are good on fuel) merc 190e bmw e34 alfa 156 (they sell for less than 1k but I'm not sure what condition, the petrols are much cheaper to buy) nissan bluebird

I've bought more than one car off eBay purely on price and distance not on make or model LOL.

I bought a very lovely 309 GTI a few weeks back for £725 and it's brilliant. Loads of fun, good on fuel and lots of room considering how light it is. Definitely a keeper.
