Right I need to sell my datty, went out with a few friends the other night and the more and more i think about it i want another skidder. The datsun is an absolutely awesome machine but its just the wrong time for me really and there is no point me putting it in the shed and forgetting about it that would just be a crime! Especially when somebody else could be enjoying it.
Right well it’s a Datsun 240c deluxe 2.4 straight 6(same as old skyline and 240z) 4 speed manual. Anybody looking at this advert should know how rare these are but there is believed to be only 2 in the country. Genuinely had a couple of policeman follow me in it on the way to the shop to tell me how gorgeous it is and have a good look round and a sit in it.
Mileage : 61,000(genuine)
MOT : 12 months, went through with flying colours in feb no advisories at all
Tax : June 2011 but doesn't matter anyway because its FREE!
History : None the last owner pretty much lost every bit but i do have some old mots, tax discs etc. All mileage history can be backed up on the MOT website using the current certificate number. I do have some pictures from before it was restored and originally silver.
Interior
It is all in fantastic condition as you would expect with a 61k mile car really does not show its age. There is some wear on the carpeting under the mat but just want to be totally honest, easily covered up with floor mats. All original here never been cut out for stereos etc or anything completely original inside.
Bodywork:
All in cracking condition. It was repainted a few years ago in the lovely blue colour. Not sure exactly what the colour is but it looked very close to a ford blue but that was only going off the colour on a cap of a halfords paint tin. So if you ever needed to touch paint in i would get the colour made up for you so you know it will match. There is some very slight bubbling on the rear passenger side arch but it is not rust just the paint lifting as i think some water has got under but its really nothing i just wanted to make every point clear. Underneath is as solid as a rock. Its gone a little brown and could do with a fresh underseal but there is not a patch of rust and it has never ever seen a welder no patching or replaced panels under there at all and doesn’t need it. I have cleaned up and re-undersealed the inner arches on the front when I repolished the wheels but didn’t get round to doing the rest. The paint looks lovely and comes up with a lovely shine. The chromework is all great; a little pitting on the rear bumper but always polishes up lovely. Wouldn’t be too much hassle to get that re-chromed if it bothered you though. Unfortunately under the bonnet was not given the same treatment as the rest of the car and as such is the original colour with a few brown bits but no rot! Just little bits of surface rust. There is easily enough room to rub it all down, mask up and paint with the engine still in. But nobody ever see's under there so I guess that’s why it wasn't done. Completely original under there not been molested or played with.
Drivetrain & wheels
The wheels are 14x7 weller chrome steels with near new 185/60 tyres all have well over 6mm of tread and have only covered a few hundred miles. Suspension is custom lowering springs on the front (not chopped!) and 2" lowering blocks in the rear. Axel and diff etc is fantastic no whining or clonks etc it drives like a brand new car. Gearbox is great it looks to have been rebuilt at some point, the casing is very very clean and shiny the backing plate looks brand new and painted blue so it looks to me like it’s been out and been rebuilt. It’s a lovely box no problems with it at all selects gears great. I think the shifter bushings could do with replacing as the stick feels a little sloppy but selects gears fine and is still precise just me being picky probably just down to it being an old car. Steering feels great no play in it worth mentioning and feels very precise for such a big and old car.
Engine
The engine is fantastic it is the 2.4 L24 bullet proof lump on a single hitachi carb. Completely original and not fiddled with in any way. I thought the engine was burning oil but found out it had been overfilled. I gave it a full service, new plugs, oil etc and it doesn’t use a drop now so must have been blowing it through the breathers when it was over filled. The pressure sensor on the block does leak some oil, the seals have gone in it so it comes past the plug not past the threads. These are the same as many Nissans and can be bought for around £5. Engine always starts on the button and is completely trouble free. New thermostat, some hosing replace, coolant system flushed through and new modern long life anti freeze. It is a strong engine sounds absolutely fantastic! and will get into naughty speeds if you want to but will cruise comfortable at 60-70 no worries. Its surprisingly good on fuel when driven accordingly a hell of a lot better than my 300c estate! Never worked out the exact MPG but you don’t REALLY consider that when buying a car like this do you?
I think thats pretty much all i can say about it? It’s a bloody awesome old datty that drives like a new car, razor sharp brakes, goes well, good steering. Lovely magic carpet ride and nice interior to look at. It just really deserves an owner who won't use it much, take it to shows and really enjoy it for what it is a super rare classic in great condition.
I'm looking for £5000ono. May consider swaps for something that would skid well, skyline, m3? Things like that something with some power would be ideal if not good old fashion cash is preferred!
